A Grave Lesson From The Narcissistic French National Squad

I am sure there are a lot of reflections coming out from the recent outburst and ousting of France at the FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa. For one, we are really having very spoiled players in our midst that will just bring the game to further disrepute. I simply cannot condone to the attitude of players like Nicolas Anelka for his foul mouthing his coach. Captain and Manchester United player Patrice Evra for staging a team training boycott in protest against their coach's sacking. Now, as the players return to their respective clubs, I am wondering what France will be doing with the current team line up. Well, if I were coach Blanc I will not even bother considering players like Nicolas Anelka or Karim Benzema who may possess an insurmountable amount of talent but an equal amount of questionable attitude. I think Coach Blanc, along with other coaches would appreciate to recall a lesson from another coach by the name of Herb Brooks who selected his ice hockey team for the 1980 Winter Olympics. None of the players he picked were big names and Brooks knew that individual talent would take the team only so far. But, a willingness to fit into his style of selfless play would be far more important than talent. Clearly, team success, not individual glory, was the priority when the team achieved a miracle and won the elusive gold medal that year! So, I just have to disagree with Paul Marshall on all counts with his article below. What do you think? Read more: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/columns/story?id=800654&cc=4716&ver=global
