My friend says she would like to become a Christian but when she reads the bible about how bloodthirsty GOD was ,like what He did to the Egyptians, before Moses lead them out of bondage she becomes disgusted. I know God is a loving God. How do I answer that question : If He is such a loving God why is he so bloodthirsty?

No, He is not a bloodthirsty God. In fact, He is a loving God. What happened before was just a demonstration of how God protects His oppressed people. Several times Moses have negotiated the freedom of the Hebrews and the Egyptians agreed. But because of their being power-hungry, at the last minute, the Egyptians changed their minds and went after the fleeing Hebrews. They have been warned, but because of the Egyptian's hard heads and cleverness, they perished.

I agree with this that God is a loving GOD and he knew the egyptians were non-believers so he decided to let moses show his (god) work. probably the pharaoh changed his mind after loosing his only son and got mad. too bad the only one left after the fall of water is the emperor himself.

Drowning, smiting, cursing, plaguing and burning people is NOT love.

God is not bloodthirsty but a merciful, forgiving God. He loves every one of us that He sent His Only Begotten Son to die for us, to redeem us from sins. If we follow His commandments, we will be able to endure all hardships in life. What He did to the Egyptians is the answer to the cries of the Israelites who had faced hardships, maltreatment from the Egyptians. If you will just read the Bible line upon line, precepts upon precepts, you will understand the love of God to mankind. You will be able that He doesn't want His people to go astray and that He always look after us, our welfare.

Hello godsgardener, If god is indeed bloodthirsty like you stated there in your discussion then almost every christian would still be at war with the muslims and launching a propaganda on the christian people and keeps debating on other religions and probably more christians separating from the roman catholic church.i know he is all loving and were the doings doing the bad work.

Put it this way. Before when GOD decided to help those slaves to have their freedom, he did everything in his power to give moses a hand. He drowned those who thirst for power. MAN is the root of this evil and GOD put an END on it. We cannot blame the wrath that came upon MAN because of MAN's doings.

The omniscient god got angry about how his underlings were behaving, but why would he be surprised? Didn't he know how they would act? And clearly, if humans don't act the was your god intended, he is a lousy designer.

@ zeusgardener4002 Obivously, people do have free choice and that's why your omniscient god is not real. If your god knows EVERYTHING we do, every decision we will make until the day we die, there is no choice. The future is set. I will not be punished and I think it's laughable that you think your lame threats intimidate intelligent, educated people.

Hmmm.. Perhaps there are some reverend in this myLot community here that can help to clear things up. I myself am a christian though not to say that I'm very clear of the way he does things but there are some things that I learnt along the way as well and I hope it is correct. First of all, if you read the Bible carefully you'll notice that it is mentioned, the God we serve is abundant in love and grace and SLOW to anger. So that means He too will be angry but only when men has crossed the line sooo bad. Second of all, He may have killed all those people but the one that is truly being hurt is Himself because His creation has chosen to be away from Him so much so that the creations are fighting against Him. If you say he is bloodthirsty, then it is a wrong concept. For if he is bloodthirsty then Christ would never have came. Because He loved us, that is why He gave us a new way or an option to actually come back to Him and not head to eternal damnation. I hope that what I have said is correct, if there are any mistakes, please point it out for I'm just a learning christian and I have still a long way to go to become a real christian.

God is a God of justice and would never leave anyone who sinned unpunished. In this story, God just wanted to show His people (Israelites) how powerful He is. If your friend is disgusted, meaning God is not speaking to her through the Bible. Always remember that we are not the one who convict people to believe in God but God Himself. God reveals Himself to those whom He have chosen. Be thankful that you have become a Christian and continue to pray for your friend that God will speak to her.

Any god who is bloodthirsty is not really a god. But I don't think the God of the Bible is a thirsty one. Since God is holy, he has to put an end to what is unholy in his sight, and this putting an end to evil people may be done through various ways. Whatever one reads in the Bible is God's way of putting an end to what we consider evil. God is love, but he is also holy. Love does not mean that he ignores evil practices.

It may not be much of a start, but tell your friend to read Matthew and John. She might be able to find her answers there. Sometimes, it takes a lot for some people to believe in the concept of a loving God. But these days we've blinded ourselves with fabrications, and sexuality, and what we think is fair and just. In truth, we humans are no better. We've become blood-thirsty, idol worshiping turncoats. I have found often that a person who doesn't believe in God will always in some way cry out to God when they are in deep trouble, such as near dying. Why is it like this? I wish I knew, but it's always been a slight curiosity in the back of my mind. And honestly, it's no different today than back a few thousand years ago. I've also wondered why God had hardened Pharaoh's heart, and the more I thought about it, the more this answer came to me. First, it was to show both Pharaoh and the Israelis that God is God. 'Nough said. Second, it was to later break down his inner pride. Did you know that back in those days, the Pharaoh was worshiped and treated like a god? The problem with us humans is that we judge God according to our standards, yet we are the most hypocritical creatures out there, unable to deter away our own thoughts from acts of wrong. Maybe it's about time we stopped judging, shut up for once, start seeking, start listening to His side of the story. A lot of people don't do that. But yeah, tell your friend to start reading Matthew and John. Also, there's a book I'm reading called Finding God in Unexpected Places. It's really helping my faith to regrow, and has given me a lot to think about. It might help her too.
