Would you donate your organs?

i was looking at my license plate and it had a field for me to check on if i wanted to be an organ donor. I checked on it. I wonder what organs they'll be able to salvage from me i'm a smoker and i used to drink a lot, i did drugs and i've had too many s3x partners. haven't really lived a healthy life. but still... i want to donate what little i can give back to the world. would you be an organ donor? would you do it even if you were still alive?

I'm not sure what body parts of my would be worth donating. For someone like me or you, it miht make sense to donate one's body to science. But that usually means being sent to a medical school for students to practice on. (Why do doctor's practice medicine? Can't they get it right?) Of course if you donate your body to science, what do the do when they're done with it? Would the keep your liver as a bad example? Would they take what's left and throw it out or would they send it back to your family in a package? No, I think I'll hoard my parts such as they are. (There is a John Prine song Don't Bury Me(?) that you should check out. "Give my ears to the deaf, if they don't mind the size.")

Not while I am alive. Cant trust how I lived, they should run tests on everyone. The only thing that really ever worried me about donating is the governments involvement (eventually, everything comes with a price.)

sure I am not going to need them if I am going to die anyway, so if my organs can help someone else, I have no problem with being an organ donor...

I am a registered organ donor. I think it is a personal decision. I think the hardest thing would to have to decide to give a loved ones organs. I know my husband and my siblings all want their organs donated. If you can save someone else's life or make their life better, why not?

No, I used to be an organ donor, but then I discovered that this is a massive scam to make money. Sure, some of the organs go to saving peoples lives, but they actually take all of your body parts I have heard and sell them. You donate your organs to these companies for free and then they sell them and make massive profits. I would rather give my complete body to the earth!

Bill, with all due respect, if you are going to say something like that you should have proof that it is true. I have never heard this issue before and I doubt that it is true. When you donate your organs, they send you information on what they used those organs for and a run down about the person they helped. They send this updated info every time they use an organ. Unless you can prove that, I would refrain from spreading unwarranted fears to others that might otherwise give to save someones life.

I must admit that I do not have any actual proof of this, but I have heard that this is what happens from people in the medical community. It may not happen all of the time obviously and I am sure that a lot of the organs that are donated are genuinely used, but I would rather my body was kept intact and composted naturally.

where'd you get this info? because if this is true then i definitely don't want to be an organ donor

I would love to be able to help someone, I do my best in day to day life but I will not be donating any of my organs unless a family member needs them. I'm very concerned about this and although it sounds harsh, if I look after my body I would like to keep them after I've gone and if I ever need one I would only hope a family member could provide help me.

hi chip;esterkhan only to a loved one or a close friend, I have qualms about my body being pulled apart like that. I have given back to the'world over my long life already so I would prefer to have my body left intact.

Yes, on my drivers license I too am a donor. As for being a donor if I was still alive, I would but it all depended on what the organ was and for who needed it. If its a family member I would definitely be there for them and hope that I'm a match. I think its a beautiful thing for people to donate their organs.

I do not believe that you have all the organs in poor condition, if the hour comes to you surely something as your body can manage to use to save the life of another person. As for my since I live in the Argentine one am not ready to donate my organs, there are many mafias that deal organs and I have found out that up to you can manage to kill if you have an accident and are a donor.

Well, I think, donating organs is worth only if you want to donate. You know, the fact is the organ donor's family is never charged for donating. I will donate my organs only when I am no more, while I am alive strictly no no. Let you know that organ donations can also be indicated in a will and in advance directives. Indicating your desire to donate organs only in a will is not recommended, though. Such instructions might not be noticed in time to allow organs or tissues to be donated.

I think organ donation is a noble cause. It feels good that a part of you lives, long before you had gone and that somebody's life had benefited from it. I still need to get a donor card but I have already expressed my wishes for organ donation to my husband. Frankly I would really be scared to donate it when I am still alive but if it is for a loved one, like in the case of a liver transplant, I would agree to it without a doubt.

So far as I know, the only organs that one can donate while they are sill alive are: a kidney, bone marrow, and skin. One thing that most can and should do as often as possible is give blood. It is good that you checked the block on your driver's license to be an organ donor, but you need to make sure that your next of kin understands that this is your desire. Hospitals usually consider the desires of the next of kin as taking precedence over that of the deceased.

No I wouldn't donate my organs. What I was created with I tend to keep. Now if I new my kids life was in danger I would donate to my kids because they deserve a long and happy life and they are still young. And one day they will want a family to and have children.

I'm an organ donor...if it'll help someone after I'm gone-so be it..I'm sure I won't feel a thing. I don't think you can do it if you're still alive though LOL

Sure I will. Anything or any part of my body that could still be useful just to save a life. At least it would be nice to think that when I'm gone there are still some parts of me that live in some other person's body.

I am a registered organ donor. I hope I can help save someone after I am gone. If I am still alive and someone in my family needed one of my kidneys for example to survive yes I would do it absolutely.
