Every where in the world has different ages for when you can get your learners permit & drivers licence...I am just wanting to know, did you race out & get your learners & driver licences when you could or did you wait? When I got my learners permit, I got it when I was eligible & at the time, that was 16.5 years old. Back then, you just had to hold your learners for 6 months t be eligible to go for the driving test to get your licence...I didn't go for my licence then, I waited to make sure I was ready & went for my driving test the day my learners expired & was lucky enough to pass.

I was a late bloomer at getting my license. It wasn't that I didn't have the ability. I jusat didn't have the confidence yet.

That's fair enough...I know that alot of accidents are cause by people who don't have the confidence.

When I was coming up, you could get your learners at 15 1/2 and your licence at 16. Which I did; only becuase I got a job as soon as I got out of school for the summer and needed a car to get back and forth to work. But now that I have two teenage stepsons, they are/were not allowed to get their licence as soon as they were eligible. They did not show the maturity/responsibility to operate a car at that time. They were/will be close to 18 yrs old before they will be able to get thiers. It is more work on their dad and I to have to take them where they need to go but it was the decision we made.

That's fair enough - the decision you made for your sons...what did they do when you told them of this?

I was so anxious to drive that I used to dream about driving my dad's car before I had my license LOL I was in driver's education classes when I was 15 and, as soon as I turned 16, I got my learner's permit. Did my practical driving and then went for the exam, passed and got my license. YAY!

When it comes to my permit I got it as soon as I could at 15 1/2 years old. I couldn't wait to start driving! LOL However, when it comes to my license I held off for a year and a half before taking the test. I worried that parallel parking would be on there and as I didn't really practice up on it I knew I wouldn't be able to pass. When a friend of mine got her license she told me it wouldn't be on there. Still, I was hesitant to take it. She was in a different city, after all. So, I waited a little while longer (a few more months, I think), then I finally decided to go for it. Sure enough, it wasn't on the test and I passed on the first try.
Happy mylotting!

I can definitely understand why you were hesitant...I had parrallel parking in my test!! Maybe I should've done the test where you did!! I still passed first go though.

I got my learners permit as soon as I was legally able to at the age of 17 I think it was. Back then in Victoria they had just lowered the age that you could get your learners permit to give people more experience before they got their licence. It used to be 17 and 9 months I think before my time.
I went for my drivers licence on my 18th birthday which was the first day that I could sit the test. I passed the written exam easily, but failed the practical one due to a bit of bad luck. I managed to do the reverse parking and drove halfway around the street course with a coke bottle on the roof of the car, but then a truck pulled wide out of a side street right in front of me and I veered left. What I did not see though was a large piece of concrete sticking out into the road at that very same spot and the instructor thought I was going to hit it, so he hit the brakes and turned the wheel. Instant fail!
I went back a week later and passed it easily second time around.

That's too bad that you failed the practical first time round.
