Anyone for Samurai Sudoku?

I've been a sudoku addict for years, but the single grid ones just don't do it for me any more. I now do samurai sudokus, which consist of 5 interlocking grids. This makes it both easier and more difficult, as one mistake can throw the whole puzzle out, even though you get clues from the other grids. What about you? Have you come across samurai sudokus? If so, what's the biggest one you've completed? A while back, there was an 11 grid samurai sudoku in a newspaper puzzle supplement. That kept me quiet all day! Here's where I get my samurai sudokus from. You can fill them in online, or print them off, and it's free - no sign up required. I prefer to print them off, so I can take them around with me. Have sudoku will travel! : http://www.samurai-sudoku.com/ :

Hi Sandra, I like Sudoku very much. I completed the ones I have in my Nintendo DS and I keep craving for more. Sometimes I redo the ones I have completed. I will definitely check out the site you provided. Wow, samurai sudoku sounds very interesting. I think the person who invented sudoku is a genius!

Hello, Blue. Yes, I agree about the sudoku inventor being a genius. The good thing about that site is that all the puzzles are created by a person. A lot of sites use computer generated ones, and you often find they don't work out. I don't know why that should be, but I guess even machines can make mistakes.

I didn't know that computer generated ones are not accurate, I would have thought it the other way round.

I have tried Samurai Sudoku, in fact, it was this interlocking grids that first made me get interested in Sudoku. I was bored one time, a long time ago, and I bought a business newspaper. Since I was not interested in the business news, I browsed through the pages and found Samurai Sudoku. It gave me a headache but I was challenged if ever I could finish the numbers game. I did! And I had been availing of that newspaper for some months till I became a Sudoku aficionado!

Hello, Eileenleyva. Yes, it gets to you, slowly but insidiously. I love it, and whenever I have a few minutes - or hours - spare, I reach for the samurai sudoku.

I'm not into sudoku. Just wanted to say that the email notification for your discussion was tagged as junk mail... with images blocked for my protection...

You know when I got my new cell phone it had the game Sudoku on it and while I have never tried it before I messed around with it in my phone so I decided to buy a book of it to try it out but I haven't done any of the puzzles in it yet. I know the concept of it but I am not real sure if I can get into it but I'll still keep the book and mess around with it every now and again.

Hello, Froggieslover. Yes, it does take some getting into, but once you do, you'll be hooked like the rest of us.

hello sandra, yes i enjoy doing sudoku. i checked the website you recommended. wow! this is the first time i've seen 5 interlocking grids. looks like fun; i'll give it a try. it should keep me occupied for a while. have you done kenken? i saw the puzzle in a reader's digest magazine. it was invented by a japanese teacher; kenken incorporates math to the traditional sudoku. the bigger grids are pretty challenging.

Hello, Charylady. No, I haven't come across kenken. I must give it a try. I'd suggest you start with the easier puzzles on samurai sudoko, as it takes a while to work out how to do them. They post easy puzzles Sunday - Tuesday and more difficult ones Wednesday - Saturday. There's also an archive, and you can print off all the previous puzzles, or complete them online. I prefer to print them myself.
