Obama is supposed to meet with Chinas President, Hu Jintao. He approves of China allowing their yuan to rise above the American dollar. Obama believes that this will increase US exports to China. What exactly do we export to China besides our recycled crap (steel, minerals, etc). It seems to me we dont manufacture a whole lot here. Are we making there little flags on sticks? Are we making their t-shirts? Any clarification? How do you feel about Obama encouraging our dollar to fall?

I haven't read anything about the yuan appreciating to a level that is above that of the U.S. dollar, although I have read that China is allowing it to appreciate a bit with a goal of increasing consumer spending and investor confidence. The U.S. dollar increased over the euro and the yen, as well as other currencies this past week because, globally, the state of the U.S. economy is not as bad as that of some other major players. The stock market, investments and commodities, oil and steel...all are global now. By the way, along with a whole bunch of steel, the U.S. also exports electrical machinery and equipment, optics & medical equipment, organic chemicals, power generating equipment and air & spacecrafts.

Why shouldn't he support it? The U.S. dollar is still valued higher and if this increases consumer spending in China that benefits U.S. businesses, it's not a terrible thing.

Actually, we make less exporting product than China in the past year, and losing great amount of GDP in comparison to China. To a better competitive, raising up the Chinese currency is a must. About what we export, cars; sophisticated electronic products, and computer.

laglen, One thing for sure will be your country's impressive arsenal - smart bombs, laser guided missiles and latest fighter jets. Other than that, I am sure Boeing will be expecting more orders for their much talked about latest Boeing 777 commercial airplanes. So, I do not think it will be your USA made Nike or Reebok apparels or sportswear, though.
