Using dish soap on your pet

Recently I went with a neighbor to take her new puppy to the vet. She was having an allergic reaction to Frontline to get rid of her fleas. While I was there I learned a tidbit of pet owner information about fleas. You can use Dawn to kill the immediate fleas on dogs and cats. The vet also said tiny puppies and kittens can handle this treatment. You should only use this method not more than once every two weeks. It does not kill flea eggs and larva, so you may want to treat with Frontline or even a flea treatment from the store like Hartz. Although I must caution you and this is very important, to wait at least fourty-eight hours after treating for fleas with medication before bathing in Dawn. Of course you can bathe the animal firt, wait at least twenty-four hours after to apply the drops.

Hi Headrick, This is a good tip, thank you. I always put a large ameythest crystal into drinking bowls as this doesn't harm the animal but deters the fleas as it gives off a smell on the cat or dog they don't like, another good treatment is tea tree oil. Huggles. Ellie :D

Thank you. I was not sure if it would work on my dog that gets so dirty. Occasionally she will come in with a tick or two. Now i will try Dawn verses the baby shampoo or expensive dog shampoo.

Oh yeah! Dawn is really good for bathing an animal with fleas/ticks. It's also what birds and animals in oil spills are bathed in. I actually use it on myself too, but not often! Like you said, not more than once every two weeks (I do it more like once a month or two). How's your neighbor's puppy doing?

I've heard that one of the grease-cutting dish soaps works good to kill the adult fleas on a pet, like you said. It's supposed to smother and suffocate them. I've not done it, but I've got stuff to treat the yard, the house and the dogs in the next few days and might try that later to see if I can keep ahead of the game.
