My dog cannot stop whining

June 27, 2010 12:28pm CST
I am going out of my mind. I currently have a black lab that is in heat. My male pit bull constantly whines all the time when she is like this. I take him out walking three times a day and he does his business, so I know he can't need to use the bathroom. Still, he continues to whine. It is driving me crazy! I'm not sure why he does this or that he even knows he is doing it. He eventually falls asleep whining, but as soon as our lab walks past him, he starts up again and looks at anyone that will pay attention like he is in pain. Maybe he is in pain. I don't know. Anyway, nothing makes him stop at this point in the game. He rarely eats or drinks during this time losing some weight as this continues for around ten more days. I totally understand that this is a natural occurrence. That being said, it still does not make dealing with it any easier. At this exact moment my lab in heat is laying on my bed and my pit bull is in the living room. Now, as soon as either dog walks into the room the other is occupying, his cries will continue. If anyone knows of anything I can do to resolve this other than getting one or both fixed at this point, please let me know.

This is a normal reaction of male dogs. The scent of a b*tch in heat will drive them crazy. I suggest if you do not want this happening you should get both fixed. They will live longer and healthy life and save you the headache of whinning or other stuff that they do.

barehugs, it is completely false what you say. Neutering a dog of either gender WILL lenghten their lives. Didn't you hear about mammary tumors, pyometrits or testicular tumors? The neutered dog will become lazy only if the owner is lazy. If the neutered dogs have enough exercise, they will not become lazy and they will not become fat. If they are not fat, the risk of heart disease will be low. So I think the owner is the problem, not the neutering.

I understand that you don't want any of them to be fixed. I don't understand why, but it is your decision. If I were you, I neuter at least the black lab. You may consider separating them during times like this. Not in separate rooms, but in separate homes. Maybe you have a relative or a friend who can keep your pit bull for the time the lab is in heat.

A b1tch in heat releases a pheromone ( a chemical substance) which cannot be smelled by man, but when detected by a male dog will drive him absolutely nuts. Male dogs will come for miles when they smell a B1tch in heat. You are putting your male dog through hell by keeping him separate from the b1tch when shes in heat. If you put them both together they will breed and this will stop the whining. The other solution would be to get either of the dogs neutered.

Get them both fixed. Your life and theirs will be much better for it.

this is obvious not all women can understand, only some women and every man that knows what your dog wants and that is the desire of a wanting female or not wanting fe a male..
