With one eye closed and the other wide open, we are not naive to this fast growing "fad" in our country. A lot of established clinics (I do not know if some have legal permits) are now being put up to not only give care and restore health to patients, but also give them hard cold cash. Yes, people nowadays, especially the marginalized, are resorting to selling their kidneys to earn money. After all, science told us clearly that a person can still survive even with only one kidney left. Being exposed by the media didn't stop this mayhem, instead, more people turned to this kind of business. First, patient comes in the "clinic", check his general health, identifies which kidney (left or right) is healthier, and that is what will be left for him. The amount of money is not fixed, because it depends on who will be the recipient - either foreigner or local. So, what else can be sold? It is a real irony that some would really interpret the cliche "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth". Those who are exploiting the human body just to make money, taking advantage to those who are poor and who didn't have a choice --- it doesn't make sense. They were put in the medical field to help. So why is this happening? It is with my young mind that I have to question those who know better than I. On the other hand, a father who is nearly losing his mind in order to find cash just to bring home a good smelling roasted chicken to his children doesn't seem to mind this. To be able to have enough money to be able to fix their shanty so that they will be protected during the rainy season. And to be able to send his children to school, with the materials that they needed and the uniforms that they will wear. Because what is important for him is to be able to give a nearly good life for his family, not wanting to let his children go through the poverty his own childhood has been through.

How awful. It seems that poverty is the real problem, though, but how do you stop that? If people weren't impoverished, they might not be so willing to sell themselves and their futures. When I began reading your post, I was thinking that it's the people who are to blame because there are so other ways to get help, but maybe not where you are.
