Why is it hard to read the Bible?

I, personally, find it hard to open the Bible and finish reading it. I have started a long time ago, but up until now, I was always distracted by more colorful, more interesting articles. I've been telling myself, it is food for the soul. But I keep on losing my track. I hope someday in my lifetime, I can find time to finish this library of books.

awake, the Bible is a compilation of books. It is not meant for single reading. Take your time reading it. In the beginning, check out the old stories that you know, like Jonas being swallowed by the whale, or David and Goliath, or Ruth's love story. Or you can begin with the Proverbs and discover which ones your teachers failed to teach in school. My favorite Gospel writer is Luke. He is the storyteller, just like the media paparazzi. He has scoops about Jesus in detail. A story a night or some verses in Psalms is good for a start. Eventually, you will get addicted reading. You will discover how difficult it was to exist in the old testament time. Glad we live now when the Bible tells us how blessed we are.

Wow. Thank you for this list of how and where to start. This, actually, is a big help for me to continue reading the Bible. :) God bless you!

probably because the Bible is about the history.. and you know, history bores a lot of people... but i love reading the Bible... i have almost finished the the new testament, and i would take note of good verses... but now, i dont have much time.. huhu.. but if i open the bible and start reading it, i would really like finishing it... finishing a book... not the whole bible... i just love to finish the story and learn from it again...

I understand that it seems you and I are guilty of having excuses because of not reading the Bible. :) I was once told firmly by a friend who is more religious than I am, that there are supposedly no excuses made when it comes to giving time to God. I was unable to reason out then. :) But people tend to be busy at times, right? Maybe all we have to do is to make up for it and find another suitable time to read it. Ciao!

The Bible really is a hard book to get into. I think that you have to read a few different versions of it, and find one that is easy for YOU to understand. I prefer the New Living Translation. It is SO much easier for me to read. I just do NOT understand all that "thee, thou, ye, hither, thither" stuff. I prefer "you, here, there". MUCH easier. =D

to make reading the bible easy, we must first be changed. it is just like being asked to write our first article when we do not have an idea what writing is all about. or when we are asked to do something that we are not used to doing. it is like receiving a letter from our loved one - the more intimate we are with the sender, the more we tend to cherish every word written. having difficulty reading the bible could mean that there is something that is keeping us from that intimacy. based on my experience, during my most intimate moments with God, i could spend a whole day reading the bible and praying and fasting. but during times of lesser intimacy, the bible becomes harder to read.

Is it really that hard? Reading the bible doesn't really just mean you have to read it... You have to understand everything written in their and then you'll find that it's really worth reading and you begin to read more of it...:) Don't say "I hope"... Believe you will...:) Hmm,but personally I think the goal is really to understand and to reflect upon the word of God...:)

Just ask the Holy Spirit to help you. You cannot do it alone. Jesus Left the Holy Spirit to Help the believers so that they may be able to understand the scripture.
