Writing Groups

Any writers of fiction engaged in writing groups? Why are you in a writing group?

i used to belong to an online writing group which i really enjoyed but sadly, it disbanded. i have never found an actual writing group where i live. there is one is a large city about an hour away but the meetings are at night and i hate driving.
