One of the really cool things about living in Florida is being near the Kennedy Space Center. We have been fortunate enough to see pretty much every launch that happened on this coast since the late 70's (including the Challenger). If the weather is "perfect" which it seldom is, you can see the launch as far away as Ft Lauderdale but usually we drive up there as it is only a couple hours North. The last one we were able to see from here was when John Glenn went back up at the ripe old age of 77 back in 98. I'll never forget that particular one and can stil remember the goose bumps I had as it lifted up, out of sight. We went up there yesterday as some friends were visiting from up North and had never been to the center. It is such an awesome place to visit, launch or not. All kids should get to see this at one point because you learn so much about the program and they have so many hands on things for kids to do that it is a learning experience they will never get in a book. The planaterium they have there and the show they put on in there would make you think you were in Outer Space, complete with the feeling of movement and all. They simulate a launch which feels almost exactly like it does when you are at a real launch. The noise and the vibration so incredable, words can't really describe it. Back in February of this year, NASA sent up the final night time launch and we went to that. Although this isn't my picture, I'm posting it so you guys can see what we saw. If you are ever are in Florida vactioning at Disney or whatever, make the drive down to Kennedy. You'll be glad you did. It's fantastic!
