charges of feloney theft! A county commissioner and buisness owner turns out to have helped herself to money that wasn't hers.....and now will be facing feloney charges due to her gambling addiction. It seems that since a casino was built just 13 miles from town we have had several people turn up with severe gambling problems! I like to go occasionally but there's no way I could or ever would spend that kind of money at a casino!! And for her she is now facing jail time not to mention that she has lost her business! This bring three business owners in the last four months that have been brought up on charges. One owner had been arrested twice! Insurance fraud...another for being a peeping tom! In our small community this is like knocking our socks off! Especially the last one as everyone just loves her! Have you heard any shocking news about a city or county official where you live? Do you spend alot of time and money at a casino?

There have been a few officials who have gotten into trouble by stealing funds from agencies. They make a fast exit once caught. Don't know what the money was used for but I want to say for travel, etc.
I personally know three people who basically ruined their lives as a result of gambling. None were city or county officials but two of them owned thriving restaurants. They lost their homes, cars, furniture but their wives hung in for the long haul.
Gambling is a fun hobby. I do go often but I have restrictions. This is what keeps me from ever getting into any trouble. All the bills must be paid in advance and there is no borrowing money from a bank or another business such as a payday loan company in order to go play. I allow myself so much time and money and when it's gone it's time to leave. It doesn't control my life which is why I call it a hobby.

Am sure she will do some jail time. Too bad she didn't think about what she was doing at the time she was doing it. Gambling with others money is not a good thing. I don't even own an ATM card and won't use a credit card. It's fun but the stress it would cause me by charging cash wouldn't make my trip to the casino relaxing. I would be on edge. Setting limits is always good.

Hi Jill, 2.4 million on gambling, that is such a lot of money to lose, poor woman really must have an addiction. I hope she gets the helps she needs to overcome it but the damage to her public life is irreversible and mamkes me wonder ifshe avoids jail just what her next move will be. Other than the odd lottery ticket or a bet once a year on the Grand NationalI do not gamble and reading this so pleased I don't. The local MP was caught up in the expenses scandal we had in Britain recently but was only a few thouisand not millions. Huggles. Ellie :D

It's truly a shame.....I met a group of young men starting a band from England today. They are on tour! I can't remember the name of the group..it started with 20 ....and I couldn't really understand what the rest was....they are a soft rock group. They were very nice young men! Good for England! HOpe they have much success.

The only politician that comes to mind involved in a scandal in recent years here was former NBA player Kevin Jognson who was elected Mayor of Sacramento. He founded St. Hope and they received a federal grant that "supposedly" he used part of for personal use. Since he was not convicted I use the word supposedly. He had to pay half of the over $800,000, that he received back. It became a problem last year because he was on a list of people that weren't to receive federal dollars, so when Sacramento was filing for federal stimulas money the ban was lifted. You can read some of it here: http://www.the-two-malcontents.com/2010/06/americorps-scandal-figure-kevin-johnson-invited-to-americorps-conference/
As for do I spend time in Casinos, yes, but I never take more than I can afford to loose. We have quite a number of casinos around and you can always find people their going around asking for money to get home. I have neve given them money as I feel they would just go right back in and try to "win" their money back.
A few years ago they introduced similar machines into bingo halls, they have the worst people there. They go around trying to sell stuff, like jewelry, key chains and once someone tried to sell me air tools for a garage. Those same people I saw sell something to people were right back at a machine trying to win there money back. Very sad.
