College Undergrad to Work in Singapore?

Philippines
June 29, 2010 12:59am CST
I'm a college undergrad of Mapua and I'm in my fourth year now. I would love to find work in Singapore but people tell me that you need at least a degree to work in that country. I need to boost my financial status for me ti finish college. I've chosen Singapore as an ideal country to work to because my girlfriend is there. Any work will do even in the Janitorial department but not Domestic helper. I got 50 units left to finish college and I'm not getting any younger. I hope I can find good inputs here if you don't have any idea about this stuff just feel free to give me an advise or something because I'm really confused and pressured... I'm not in a wacky mood. I'm afraid I could not share a smile today but you could at least share your smiles with me because I really need it today You can call me desperate or anything you want I wont mind at all

Let me see if i can make you smile again. You need a pink tutu, a pair of red high heels and maybe a green scarf. You will know why i chose that outfit. Now cheer up, relax, take a very deep breath and start at one end. Don't think of anything at once, that is why you feel this way. Rome wasn't build in one day, you know. What are you studying for? TATA.

No meluan, that will freeze his brain. It is a man, so that won't do him any good at all.

No. I'm a home-based dad now I didn't land a job back then, but my girlfriend then is now my wife. I forgot that I cried for help here before I'm a bit embarrassed and I laughed while reading this again

Hello hexeduser, You're not gonna work there just because you're GF is there aren't you? you will need a lot of money for the Visa Papers, not to mention training for the job that you need to inquire. or probably if you're girl friend has connections there she could recommend you for another job there. but why janitor? isn't it really that hard for you financially that you need to work as a Janitor? good luck my friend, things are not looking if you work abroad except when you earn money

There is a great opportunity in Singapore and yes my girlfriend is there. I would take even the Janitor's job just to be practical because the salary is triple compared here. If I choose to finish my studies then I will choose to take my a job appropriate for my profession then and that is being a Civil Engineer

I have been to Singapore many times and Have a lot of friends there. If I may suggest it would be better for you to finish the 50 units you have left in college before you think about going to Singapore. There is a very strict law right now about going to Singapore. Also the job market is very competitive in Singapore and you will have to undergo the Ministry and they would be the one to evaluate whether they will let you in or not. Also if you decide to work on janitorial services you would need to get an NCII from TESDA perhaps that would fall under Housekeeping Services. You will be required an NC II before you will be allowed to get out of the country and this is the new policy. Even DH has to have the NC II issued by TESDA before they could go out.

That's what my girlfriend has been telling me in the first place. If i were to finish my units then I would not opt to work in the Janitorial Department but instead I will pursue my profession as a Civil Engineer. Thank you for this much information

Studying in Mapua makes it difficult to take a part time job that's why I opt to earn online as much as I can.

Oh my poor hexe! You don't have to feel badly about feeling this way! It is normal for most people getting towards the end of College. It is a sort of "panic mode" and you are so not alone! Just take is easy and I'm sure things will work out for you. Singapore is a huge place with wonderful opportunites! I think you picked a perfect place to start out. So, don't stress so much and try to smile because you still have your whole life ahead of you! Hugs, Opal

I'm afraid the longer I keep my girlfriend waiting for me to finish college the bigger the chance I might lose the relationship that I have work so hard for would fall apart. We both love each other but the distance is starting to break us apart. I dont have much working experience and I'm not getting any younger. Thanks Opal

I'm sure lot of the undergrad plays the majority of working force in Singapore. I mean if your not picky, but if you want a job preferred for professionals then that's the problem lol. Anyways, why Singapore of all the country why not the mid-eastern country they're not very strict on the credentials. I have an undergrad friend who was hired as an executive secretary. He's doing good by now.

Hey, it's been a while. I know a company that accepts engineer undergraduates. They even recognize our school so you won't have a hard time applying there. I'm also planning to apply there next week. It's in ortigas. It could give you a boost financially and you're more likely to land on a deskjob. Autocad operator to be exact.

Wow That's nice patience and a lot of patience. I think a whole bunch is all you need. Finish school. Think of yourself first. It's not trying to be selfish. The more you can provide good things for your girlfriend if you graduate.

hiya hex i just saw this discussion of yours.. try to join some work networking sites or social youth sites. i'm assuming that you do like to surf the chat rooms and meet new friends online..so by networking within some of those sites where employees and young execs interact with students and stuff, you'll get to check out more options. also get your resume up on some job search sites (within this region and also on the singapore ones..searching on the myLot search bar would help, and you can even earn a bonus!), you never know what kind of opportunities you might come across.. check it out dude..increase your options and network contacts.. you'll land something for sure good luck to you my smiley-face-with-big-eyes-on-a-blue-star friend.. :)

My age hinders me to go through that length but might as well try it. I'm afraid to hear from employers something like "oh my his in his middle 20's but still a student" I guess I have to face my fears and all those negative comments I will receive Thanks Mario my wacky yellow friend
