our family are dog lovers and i cant remember any instance where in we don't have one, and as far as i can remember they name our dogs with limited names passed to one dog at another, we usually name our female dogs as "bambi" we already name 5 generations of bambi..for male dog they usually called them by their color..(white - whitey, brown - brownie)..and new trend was created name after a popular comedian here, we already have 3 generations of dog name "pokwang".

The thing with the name passed to one pet from another happens in my family, too. My parents are now at the second Gilda (female dog), and at the fourth Bubu (male cat).

In my lifetime, my family has had six dogs. The first was a big black lab named Sheeba. Then we had about three pound rescued dogs in a row, only for about a week each. An Italian Greyhound mix named Eryn (named by my older sister), a Rat Terrier named Buttons/Duchess/Princess/Coco (none of us could agree on a name), and a Chihuahua named Riff (named by my older sister's best friend). Riff was actually just a dog my mom found on the side of the road, but he ended up a pound dog. Finally, we got a freebie dog from our neighbors. She is an Old English Sheepdog/Malinoias mix named Molly. My older sister named her after Molly Weasley from the Harry Potter books, because of the bright red fur on top of her head. Molly was not very well behaved, so we tried training her, which didn't work too well. We got another free dog from a dog catcher who just could not stand to take this beautiful, black lab to the pound. She was so well behaved, that he left her in the corner of his office for three days, and only let her out to use the bathroom once a day, and she didn't chew any thing up or make a mess all over the floor. When we got her, I immediately took to calling her Shadow, because if you would walk around the yard, she was right on your heels.

Our little dog was a stray who was dark brown when she showed up. After we decided to let her inside and my daughter gave her a bath we discovered that she had been covered with sugarcane ash from being in a burned field and that she was really light brown. So, since she had been in the cane fields we named her Sugarcane...but we call her Sugar. Our other dog is my husband's companion at the motorcycle shop...a large, black Cur dog named Dyna, after a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

My first dog's name was Nera. I named her Nera (the Italian for "black") because she had a lot of black on his coat when she was a puppy (you know how airedale puppy are). Later, her coat became pretty blond... The dog that I have now is Binne. Few years ago I saw a documentary on National Geografic Channel about a polar bear named Binne. I liked this name and ... here we are! The funniest thing is that in my native language, Bine (with a single n, but pronounced the same) means OK, good. You have to see the look on people's faces when I call my dog!
