Airline Food - Be Prepared

Following up on my previous discussion about how certain airlines have horrible menus onboard their flights, I don't think you will find this video about the FDA's findings of food prepared by for the flights in the US very digestible, at least not for me.
It is found that food in these catering facilities is becoming a health hazard for flight passengers and with worrying causes like food are not being stored in right temperatures which will allow bacteria to thrive and manifest.
Also, in their investigations they have found other disturbing findings like unclean equipments used in food preparations, poor employee hygiene and inadequate pest control.
I don't know about you but I am certainly going to be more selective of my flights within domestic USA. Also, I will be closely scrutinizing my plates ever more closely.
Bon (careful) Appetit!

It´s a shame! The airlines (and the whole chain of providers for them) finally mean that passengers pay more money for their trips. And as I see, we will have to reach the "picnic" level. Hard boiled eggs, cooked chicken and a thermos of tea or coffee
. Except that the plane will not let us take with us our own food. I do hope that something is done about this, not only in US air companies, but all around the world. And if it isn´t possible, why not substracting the money we pay for food from our airfare and give us passengers permission to bring our own sandwichs?
Thanks for sharing this information. It can save us from illness.

marguicha,
I think there would be problems when there are only 3 caterers churning over 10 million meals for the airlines and I am just surprised that the authorities are not approving more caterers here to handle the amount of work.
The picnic idea is not a stranger to me as I have really done it before a long time ago and it would be pathetic to the airlines if I am forced to embark on this idea. I really hope it would not end up like this.

Authorities, in my experience, love to leave money making business in a few hands
. I don´t think they care that much about people with no power getting sick. Specially when you can´t "prove" that it was that food what made them ill.

Hey sky! I had read this article yesterday on AOL and it was
really disgusting! Since I don't fly hardly at all and when I
do my flight is only 3 hours and no food is necessary I am
really glad now! I bring my own "snacks" or eat before getting
on the plane! The few meals that they do "offer" are so
ridiculously overpriced and strange to begin with that I would
rather starve! Years ago they used to serve meals "for free"?
(included in airfare)! I know that you have to fly alot so
I feel sorry for you! I will be flying in a month or two again
on a short domestic USA flight from NY to Florida and I will
again take my snacks and eat when I get to my Mom's house!lol

Opal26,
I suppose your idea may work for a short haul flight or that I can have my meals close to my arrival times.
I may not really be greatly affected here but I am just concern for the overall and when I travel for my leisure. I hope the airlines will step in and up with this area of their service.
Have a nice day.

maybe they should do like our budget airline does.. (u know AIR ASIA?)..
they just sell snacks like the local Convenience Store.. bottled mineral water..
and recently they've upgraded 'their' menu.. they've tied up with some local delicacies to supply food to them - so u can eat 'Takeaway -Food' on board..
but then again.. i dont know what is the longest flight for domestic flights in US.. i mean.. do they really need to eat on the flight ??..
