This photo shows one of the acorn squash from my garden. I have 4 plants planted and will get MANY squash from them it seems. I am wondering what the shelf life of acorn squash is. Does anyone know how long they will last stored in my cool basement? Any recipes from you guys would also be greatly appreciated.

We put butter and brown sugar in the halves and bake them that way.

hi grandpa Bob I think acorn squash last for at least a month or more but its been so long am not sure. I love them halved and butter and brown sugar sprinled on them with a dash of cinnamon and baked until soft. so good so yummy too. I even like acorn squash soup actually better than butternut as butter nut has an odd flavor when made into soup.We u sed to grow a lot of hubbard squash also besides acorns.

I got butternut from my neighbor last year.
It stayed fresh in my basement for about 6 months actually.

If your basement is cool and reasonably dry, they should keep 3 - 4 months and sometimes longer. I had one keep until spring one year. It was hidden behind some other things or I would have eaten it before then. They'll turn orange but still be good.
I like to cut them into, scoop out the seeds (save the seeds to fix like pumpkin seeds), put a dollop of butter in them and bake at about 375 for 45 minutes to an hour. I don't like sweet vegetables, but some people put brown sugar and pecans in the seed cavity before baking.
