The world is catching protest fever.

It is not just the tea party people here in America that are protesting the decsions of their government. In Greece they are protesting social program cuts (not too peacefully I might add), in France they protesting the possible raising of the retirement age, and now England is about to be next. In order to try and get their debt under control England is talking about making some major cuts to the government budgets including social programs. The Unions and parts of the general population are threating to protest in response. A lot of European nations are having to make cuts to their social programs due to the economy and the exspense of those programs. It seems the population at large in those countries are ticked off...they feel they paid into those programs out of their taxes so the program's budgets should not get cut. Looks like no one is happy with the way things are going right now. (side note for America---the cost of these social programs are hurting these countries so badly right now they are moving away from them...so why are moving toward them? Can't we learn from their mistakes?) The world is in an ecomonic crisis. Are the governments handling it right? Should they be cutting back on social programs to balance their budgets? Or are the protesters right...they paid the money so they should get the benefits?

I don't know.. I suspect a lot of social programs have a lot of fat to them that could be cut out. In our country (USA) there are a lot of other things that can be cut first. Like government grants for local museums or pointless studies or some Senator's pet project. The government wastes enough money to fund all the social programs we have and then some, but they'll never stop that. I don't think there's any way out of this economic crisis because dishonesty, selfishness and other corruption is to rampant in our government.

Ya there is a way...but you won't like it. It is the way they are going to try to sell to us too.....they will pretend to cut the pork, cut social benefits and raise our taxes. Which means we will pay into the system more money but get less return on our money. They won't stop wasting it. They will just take more money from us to pay for their waste and the debt. Now my big thing is....is the american public going to fall for it?

Do you see the contradiction? France wants to balance their budget and, in order to do so, wants to raise the retirement age...and people protest. England wants to cut their budget and, again, people protest. In the U.S. people want smaller government but how will they react when programs are cut as well? There is no perfect solution.

I understand the paid into it so I should get it, this is our issue with Social Security. But they keep cutting that and putting more money into programs like welfare where most likely the person receiving never paid in. I think everywhere, people need to realize that the money tree is diseased. Our own president was pretty much laughed at with the G8 and the G20 saying it is time to STOP spending and tighten belts. I say - everybody suck it up.

We send millions a day to other countries, some of them who are far better off than our own but we don't ever seem to give two cents about our own countrymen. Maybe it is time we take care of our own first instead of turning them out on the streets while millions to billions go to foreign countries.

CFR Meeting: Zbigniew Brzezinski Fears Global Political Awakening http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZxE8L38h6U "for the first time in all of human history mankind is politically awakened. That's a total new reality, total new reality. It has not been so for most of human history until the last 100 years and it of course in the last 100 years the whole world has become politically awaken and no matter where you go politics is a matter of social engagement and most people know what is generally going on in the world and are consciously aware of global iniquities, inequalities, lack of respect and exploitation. Mankind is now political awaken in history. The combination of the two diversified global leadership and politically awakened masses makes a much more difficult context for any major power including the currently leading world power the united states" Seems like they were just much happier when the world and humanity at large were just dumb followers.
