These word "arrogant" was used by philip lahm, the captain of the german team, which really summed up england's performance which was sombre and dissapointing to say the least, obviously the signs were ominous and i did cringe when i saw their performance against algeria, next game against slovenia only brightened up some hope, but what was to come was a shocker of a performance against germany,of course we can say that a referee decision ruined it for us,but, really england were outclassed and outsped by germany, what a shameful exit!england wont ever win this one,as players seem to priotise their club over country,we say that frank lampard, gerrard, etc are world class but are they really world class when compared to vills, totti etc,no,and these famous players seem to think that they are the best players in the world, and what a hell of a player is wayne rooney, rooney is rooney only if he is fed properly by nani, neville, scholes in man u,but else he is only an ordinary player, english media ,please stop overhyping your player, and be ready to face the reality when it dawns it upon you, this english team wont ever win anything, till they start giving youth academies a chance, never go by star value, and always try to stay on the earth and not the sky!

I saw no arrogance. I saw non committal, I saw laziness, I saw tiredness, I saw a bunch of men who couldn't care less. Have you see the English press and media this week - they are certainly not overhyping the players!!

You should have seen the papers before the tournament starts, how they label them as the golden generation that will finally end the 44years wait. After such performance, no press or media will have good words for them.

Unless they come to the fact that they are not that good as the media make them out to be, they won't win it again. The clubs got to play their part as well. There is this argument that clubs like Arsenal favors foreign to home grown players and thus restricting the growth of the home player. Look at it this way, a promising young player emerges, the media make a big hoohah about him and the club slapped an unreasonable fee on him. If a club can find another young player as skillful as the English and come at a cheaper price, why not. If you could remember, some years ago when Henry move from Arsenal to Barcelona, there is another big money move for Darren Bent. In fact, the fee involving Bent is higher than Henry's. If you are the club coach, who would you pick as your signing? Fact is, football is business. National priority comes after.

Arrogant is the not the word that I saw from England during the world cup. Though words like Frightened, Distracted, Uncaring were some of the words that I would use to describe this bunch. Others could like Unfit and Tired. I do not think there was any sign of arrogance except for the usual stuff from Terry. So I would not blame England of that. Cheers! Ram

As an Englishman I will say that the performance at this World Cup has been terrible. But the reasons why England performed so badly is not arrogance, in fact Lahm is acting arrogant for saying so, but comes from a lot of different areas, such as burn out from a long season, team selection & tactics and that barely scratches the surface, none of which are excuses but are reasons which need to be looked at. What frustrates me is that England does have world class players but the trouble is they struggle to play together as a team, there are just too many individuals. In my opinion what should be done is not picking a team of just the best players but picking a team which plays in the same style. If that means a few big names get left out in favour of lesser names I don’t care. But England needs to start picking a team who can play effectively as a team and not 11 individuals.

I do not think that they were all arrogant. I think that some of the players, such as Milner, seemed to give their all and seemed down to earth. I think that the incredible wealth which is thrust on the players takes away some of the edge for them. Hopefully one day we will win another world cup but it does not look like happening in the foreseeable future.
