Best way to get scratches out of DVD/CD's ?

We have our fair share of scratched up DVD's & CD's floating around the house. Hubby used to just rinse them under water and that would do for fingerprints and sometimes some light scratches. He did well with a repair kit but in the interest of saving money we haven't bought another kit. So what do you do with yours? What have you had the best luck with?

Several years ago for Christmas my husband got a nifty contraption from my mother. It was called the CD doctor or something like that (I haven't seen it in quite some time). However, it buffed the CDs/DVDs and it worked better than anything that I've ever seen to get the scratches off of them. Other than that I know that there are certain tricks that will help, but I don't know for sure that they will permanently fix scratches and I can't remember them right off the top of my head.

You can look it up, because I know it sounds weird, but peanut butter. I had heard about it, but then my brother-in-law asked if it was okay for him to try it on one of my DVDs that he had borrowed. I agreed, and it worked well. And because I got all of the peanut butter off of it before putting it back in the DVD player (of course, lol), it didn't mess anything up either.

Hi Snugglebunnies, I use a baby wipe and then buff with a glasses cloth, brings them up a treat. Huggles. Ellie :D

hi 3Snugglebunnies I think in the long run you will probably save by 'just replacing the scratched ones as the stuff to repair them may end up costing as much as videos on sale. Just my opinion of course and could well be wrong too. lol lol.

If Windex and a paper towel don't fix the problem, then we're SOL. We're learning to keep our more important DVD's put up in our bedroom where the little ones won't get their hands on them.

There is a saying about glasses that can be trasfered to DVDs & CDs. "in their case or on your face". Just change " face" to " player". Hard to do with little ones I know. Heck, it's hard to do with teens too.

Hmm.. I've heard of a very cheap product called Brasso but since we're all into saving money now due to recession.. We could... NOTE: NEVER CLEAN A CD IN A CIRCULAR MOTION! ALWAYS FROM END TO END IN A STRAIGHT FASHION. :D Use Toothpaste - You get a cotton ball or cloth and put a dab of toothpaste on it, not too much. Okay? Then just rub on CD and rinse. :D Doesn't really work with deep scratches. I can't guarantee good results. I just pretty much searched the net..

I think there is no way to get out of scratches. In some fortunate cases, even with scratches we will be able to access the data present in it.it is of low probability.Best way is to get rid of scratches on DVD/CDs.
