Trailers

A few months ago i took two friends out to go see a movie with me. One friend saw the trailer for the movie before hand, so did i, and the other did not. When the movie was over the friend who did not see the trailer enjoyed the movie more than me and my other friend. I later showed him the trailer and he pointed out that the movie would have been ruined for him if he saw it. I have now decided to skip movie trailers in order to see if i enjoy the movie better. Could you guys go the next few months without viewing a trailer or would you prefer viewing movie trailers for the preview? And if you have recently seen a movie without seeing the trailer how has it affected your view of the movie, was it better because of your action or would you have felt just the same?

I watch a lot of trailers, comes with the territory as a movie reviewer and I have to say that the majority of the time I watch a movie after I have seen the trailer I am a little disappointed. This is because the whole purpose of a trailer is to make you want to see a movie and that often means editing together all the best bits and so when you watch the movie it can feel completely different. A good example of this is "You, Me and Dupree" which has a brilliantly funny trailer yet the movie is dull. Because of what I do I couldn't go a few months without watching a trailer and although I know that the majority of them end up being the edited best bits I still enjoy knowing what to expect before seeing a movie. Although saying that I like watching movies I have absolutely no idea about, as in I haven't seen the trailer, read a review, know who the stars are or even what's it about. A complete lucky pick type thing.

I seldom go to movies these and the only trailers I see are on TV. However, I do feel that many trailers either show to much or are misleading; both of which can spoil the enjoyment of the movie.

Uhhh... I'm not following your logic. If you never saw the trailer, how would you know what movies you wanted to see and what movies you didn't want to see? I like watching trailers... and I haunt iTunes trailers to find out which movies are coming out. The last time I went to see a movie I actually laughed at the trailers being shown, because I called what every single one was before two seconds had passed. I'd seen them all already! I like watching trailers even after I've seen the movies. I like critiquing them based on what clips they chose and what plot elements they chose to reveal. Trailers are the way I know whether or not I'd like a movie most of the time. I can tell from a trailer which movies I'm not going to like (Dirty, vulgar, comedies and horror movies... Bleh) and which movies I might actually want to see (high fantasy and action! Yippee!). If I never watched trailers then I wouldn't know what was what.

By not seeing the trailer it would give you more of a surprise of what the movie would be.

I agree with allyoftherain, watching trailers helps me get interested in the movies and lets me know what movies are coming soon, i don't want to go to the movies and just pick one out randomly and risk the chance of not liking it and wasting my money.

Doilookbored, but do you really want to be surprised that much? How would you pick what you wanted to go to see if you never watched any trailers? Actors? Director? Some measly paragraph synopsis on a review site? Personally, I've never gone to see a movie because of who directed in it or who stars in it. The most important thing to me is the story, and I find out which stories I might like from watching the trailers. I'm also a person who really likes trailers, and likes dissecting how they were edited. A good trailer doesn't give too much way in the first place. EvaValenti said it better than I could. I don't want to go to the movies and pick a title at random! I'd waste loads of money watching movies that I could have easily been able to tell weren't for me from the trailer.

Trailers and reviews are must before i spent movie - If not rather wait for the rental.Or borrow the dvd from friends.
Nowsday also i don watch trailers in PC,because it take a hassle to download or streaming the trailers. The only trailer i watch is in tv , or in cinemas itself.I rather read the review and preview online, there are many forums and movies forum that are fill with interesting details and also the whole movies spoilers.I think i prefer to view trailers before seeing teh movie and also read few reviews.

eah, I see what you mean, the trailers form a kind of idea and expectation in your mind, so I know where your friend is going from. Some trailers are done so well and it really makes you want to see the film and the triler itself is fantastic, so you form an expectation thinking that the film is going to be just as good, but not always the case. For me the trailers itself is a highlight for me, and I love watching them on their own, so when we go to the cinema, I always make sure I go in early not to miss the trailers as I really like them despite not being able to see the film yet (sad I know!) :) xx

i only watch the beginning of trailvers. I close it when i have a conception of what the movie is like. Trailers tend to spoil more in the end ;) stop it before its to late hehe
