It all started in the 1930's when the first Remingtons arrived in India. It was a momentous era. Once a familiar sight in offices, along with files and steel almirahs. The advent of the typewriter meant social change. The computer has steadily been replacing the typewriter in most offices but they are still used to test the typing skills of aspiring clerks. Shae your thoughts please......

Hi busybee, when i was studying it become a must to learn typing for all the girls in my school since it will be useful for the girls if they want to become a office assistant or some admin related jobs. Now no one is going for typing class. I too passed higher typing. What now a days it seems to be out dated and the type writers are hardly seen.

Yes, i agree with you those days were really passion filled to learn something new, even I worked hard to learn typewriting as I was doing lot of correspondence and to avoid writing I used the typewriter. It was something unique. Any how I feel still that learners may take the advantage of typing by a typewriter.

It is so surprising the very thing that one or a team of people invented - the typewriter - is so well introduced. I was 16 years when I started in a manual Remington - then onwards IBM Golf electrical typewrite - then the word processor and now the Computer. My family would thank the person or team who introduced the typewriter because this machine have made all a family members to great heights from C.E.O of their own companies, Five Star Hotel - Director of Operations and so forth.Thank you typewriter, old is Gold.

I highly appreciate your beautiful thoughts on the type writer.Yes take for example myself-I used to cycle 10 kms from my house to learn typewriting which was a great passion those days way back 1971. wonderful were those days. Typing has helped me a great in doing my foreign correspondence a lot. But the sweep of technology is so fast that everything is changing drastically . Can't help but only bare with the situations.

Sure typewriter isn't as popular as in the past but there are still occasions that it is the only tool capable of the job. For example, many companies need to use typewriter to type document so that a duplicate copy is produced immediately.

I endorse your view that a computer is far superior to a typewriter.I also don't accept that you can't get a copy in a computer. But typing speed is important as the work gets completed quickly. For instance there is a lengthy document to be typed and we are relying on a typist with slow speed, will not the completion of work be delayed due to typing speed?

Hi picjim ,I understand that and still support the typewriter as some works like documents can be done only through a typewriter itself. And,as you say that you can't get a copy in a computer, that is right.

Technology has gone through so many huge advancements since the invention of the typewriter. The arrival of the computer had a lot to do with the typewriter's decline. My children look at me as if I am from Mars when I mention taking typing in school. I wonder if they even know what a typewriter is.

You rightly say that - children dream you have just arrived from MARS. This is the trend of the present children's developed minds.Do not where we are going and where will reach by the advancement of this so called technology. I feel it is towards bad only. Any how we have to survive and enjoy that - inst it...!
