What Obama forgot to mention in his immigration reform speech

Obama talked about the need for immigration reform. He talked about how he wants to do it. He went into detail how the bill a few years ago failed. But what he forgot to remind you was why. It had the support of the President Bush...it had enough votes to pass from both parties. That bill was almost a done deal. YOu know what stopped it dead in it's tracks? We the American poeple did it. Congress was all set to pass it until the American public let their voice be heard and loudly. So many people HATED that bill that they called their elected representatives. So many called that it crashed the switch board at the capital and kept crashing it for days. People called, emailed, wrote letters, protested and keep on doing it...until congress backed off and let the bill die. So he can say he wants congress to work together on this all he wants...but if they don't put up a bill that the American citizens like...it won't matter. He needs US to approve of the bill...not congress.
Unless he is planning on just cramming a bill through wether we like it or not like they did with healthcare.
The majority of American want the border secured BEFORE we reform immigration. What is the point of overhauling the system if people can still come over illegally in massive amounts? What is the point of overhauling the system if employers can still hire illegals without getting into major trouble? ALso how is Obama going to sell "amnesty" or a "path to citizenship" to the American public when a LARGE percent of us DON'T WANT IT?

Most of the population has more common sense than all of congress combined....so I hate it when they treat us we are "too stupid" to know what is for our "own good".
This is going to get ugly. If they try to push amnesty it will get ugly.
Especially with how mad a lot of people are still about the healthcare bill.

Obama wants to take on immigration reform now...but congress is too scared to do it. Have you noticed they really have not done much at all sense healthcare. They are scared to do anything before the november election. Especially something that is going to tick off the american public again.
So unless Obama really really makes them...I don't see it til next year and hopefully we have enough turn over in the house and senate that they only bill that can get passed will be one without amnesty.

We've been there, done that with Reagan. He gave blanket amnesty and failed to secure the southern boarder so they just kept coming, leading to the situation we have today. What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

This is very true, lil. I've read more than one article that said illegal immigrants have been returning to their home countries because of the recession in the U.S. They can't find work, especially with the construction/home improvement industry at an all time low. Make it impossible for the ones who are still here to find and keep jobs and they will leave, too.

You are right. We should shut down the borders...stop them from getting jobs...then we can talk about the ones already here....but personally I think if they can't get jobs they will deport themselves. So it really won't cost us that much to get rid of the illegals. Make life miserable for them here...they will go home by themselves.

Yep. But you see the political game Obama is playing. He is blaming the republicans for the bill not getting passed under bush's watch. He is saying that a lot of republicans that supported that last bill are saying they won't support this one....but he is not telling WHY they stopped supporting it. They stopped supporting the bill because their poeple of their state raised holy heck and told them to stop supporting it. They listened. that is their job. But he is making it look like they won't support it because he is now president. I wonder how much the american public will remember what really happened and who really stopped that bill? Because those same poeple will make it really hard on them to support a bill with amnesty in it this time around too.
Want to blame someone Obama...blame the american people. We stoppped the bill not congress...not the republican party.
I wonder if I can still find some of the old news clips on it on youtube.
