Jury Duty

I've been called into doing jury duty. I don't know what to expect. Will I actually have to be called in to weigh in on a real case? Will it be like it is on television? Will someone's fate be in my hands? Scary thoughts. Have you ever done Jury Duty? What should I expect?

Don't worry. I have been called for jury duty twice in my life. The first time I was called to the court house and then released from the jury pool as one of the lawyers decided that I was not going to be a good juror for their position. The second time I never even had to report to the court house. The chances of you actually being selected to sit on a jury are much smaller than being called for duty.

Thank goodness. I don't think I would like sitting on a jury. I have hard enough making decisions for myself, I don't like the idea of making decisions on someone else's fate.

Not to worry, even if you were choosen you have 11 others that you have to talk it over with and come up with one answer. Usually people that sit through a case have a strong feeling one way or the other. And if the entire jury pool can not discuss and come up with one decision based on the facts the jury would be consider hung and it would go as a miss trial. If you are selected, just make sure you listen closely to the facts and do not let your emotions control your thinking, there are certain laws in each case that have to be considered.

You're in a very complicated situation and I can't blame you for worrying. I've never been on a jury duty but I wish I could be. I'd like to experience reviewing a case and learn from other people as well.
