A couple of weeks ago, I posted about my son leaving to go on mission to Nashville, TN. They have been there for 5 days now and are doing some great things. I talked to the youth director on Wednesday and she told me about a school they had been working to rebuild and some of the houses they had been working on. So I thought everything was great. That was until my older son got a text message from his brother with a picture of his new hair cut. Now mind you I had cut his hair less than two weeks ago because of his senior pictures, so there was no need for a haircut. It seems that they went on some "mission" site that was a Mowhawk mission and he "took one for the team" and had his hair cut into a mowhawk. Problem is that no one ok'd him having his hair cut as such. He has softball pictures to be taken next week so I am now going to have to have his hair cut again in order to straighten out the mess. And it is a mess as it is not in the center of his head. I know that teens want to have fun and getting your hair cut into a mowhawk would seem cool at his age but don't you think the youth director should have made sure that it was ok? I had talked to her the day before this happened and she knows that there are some issues with family members and health issues (my father-in-law is currently hospitalized in serious condition) that may lead to us having to make another trip out of town as soon as they get back.

Maybe they used the method, do you think this would be okay with your parents? That is never a good method to use with teenagers. Especially if they are likely to say yes, when the parents really wouldn't be okay with it. On the other hand, I have no idea what the youth director was thinking - or not thinking. Or...does the youth director have children? Because if she does, she should have known better.

The youth director does have kids and they play baseball also. So she should have know that it would not be acceptable on the field. Good thing is my son has agreed to have it straigtened up.

Yep. Having kids, that should have clued her in on how parents would feel.

One consolation is it will grow. It is summer so a butch is not all bad.

He gets his hair cut pretty short in the summer anyway. This is just going to be a little shorter than he would like. He understands that it is not appropriate for the picutres he has to have taken and has agreed to let me straighten it up.
