I know English is a universal Language. I've been teaching Koreans for years now and I dont know if its a 'fad' or it's really important for them. In my country, we do use English often even at home. How about in your country? How often do you speak or use the English language. Do you think it's very important in our lives now?

We use lots of English here where I live. I believe it is very important in the world we live in now. It's the master key to navigate through the world of science and technology, medicines and the world of knowledge. But I'm not saying that the other languages are not as important. It's just that English is one of the 'lingua franca' if not the most used internationally. We speak a lot of English at home as well as our mother tongue. Our mother tongue gives us access to values and things closer to our hearts. We want our children to have a global outlook but yet with their feet firmly planted in the language, customs and values which are the roots that hold a tree firm. Mastering both or more languages may not be easy. Sometimes you have to devote more time to one than the other. As long as your priorities are right you may not sway off course far from them. Matching the best language to use for what and when makes more sense to language learning.

Yes we do! We speak both English and our mother tongue at home. I can't explain how the mind works. But we just have to switch back and forth. And we know when and what is good for each language to be used. We don't mix the languages up. We try as much to have them spoken correctly. And we don't compare them either. We just love them!

I think that's the advantage of learning more than one language at a very early age. We have that at home, too - we can speak English, our mother tongue and two other dialects, and switch back and forth without a problem. I'm trying to learn other languages, but it's taking me a long time, unlike those that I've learned when I was really young.

We're from the same country sweethums and I must say the English language is everywhere - from signages, to the government. Our politicians communicate in English. Our teachers use English as much as possible. Our laws are written in English. We communicate with foreigners in English. It's so easy for them to be lost in our country. They just have to look at maps, ask people, or follow the signs. Life will would be so difficult if we don't understand each other and that's where English plays it's role. The English language itself comes from French, Latin, and maybe more, but in every language, you'll find an English word or two which can't be translated to their own, so they use the original (English) instead. So yes, English is very much important in our lives now..in my life at least =)

Yes, we do use English at home especially when talking to my nieces and nephews.. Oh, how I miss them.. Now, living on my own, I just communicate with the people around in our dialect. However, there are some instances that I'm obliged to speak English..For example: communicating with the apartment's owner and giving directions to some Korean, Chinese and American nationals. Do you speak English at home as well?

Here in our country. English is not our origin. But people are so perfectionist and judgmental. When you dont know how to speak English fluently they will think that your not intelligent. But i know people who has good communication skills and not good enough in other things. I can say that English is really important to meet other expectations. And you can use this language to communicate in other countries. You cannot get a job if your English is not good enough. That's why Chinese people are very successful and develop because they are more focused in their country. Their priority is their citizens.

I think that is because it came a global language. It is used in companies. I think alos it is important because it is the only language that make it easy to connect with those who don't speake but learn it.
