Negative effects of Immigration

Why can immigrants become U.S. citizens and not have to pay taxes for a certain amount of years??? I don't find that fair. Most of the convenience stores and restaurants here are owned by foreigners and I find it to be very insulting that many Americans are refused the smallest of business loans...?? Where is the logic??

There is absolutely no logic in this situation. We have a country that is crowded and struggling in the first place. We do not really need to open up the doors and invite everyone here. I can understand wanting a better life and thinking that you will find one here. Trust me, if I was in the situation of some of the people from other countries that are worse off, I might feel the same way. However, things are rather backwards. I mean, we should really put the people who are here first. Instead of bending over backwards for immigrants...no immigrants are fine, as long as they got here through legal means and were here for a number of years. Bending over backwards to people who got here illegally, that's a problem. Sadly, this is not going to change anytime soon but there are times that I feel like the American citizens are being shoved to the back, in favor of catering to people who immigrant to this company, both legally and worse illegally.

I agree. My heart does go out to people whom live in countries that aren't exactly the best, but coming over here illegally and prospering is just downright unfair. There are so many people here on the system and welfare that it's ridiculous. Just as many are homeless bums out on the street staying in day-by-day hotels, shelters and wherever they can. I feel like we need to help our country first... before we help others because if our country goes down... we won't be able to help them anyway. Thanks for your comment!!

Well...they work for a lot less than the average American will and most of them come to companies through temporary services so the companies aren't required to provide medical insurance. There is also the fact that there are a whole lot of immigrants and what they don't pay in taxes..they think they will spend on goods. The problem is that they are also eligiable for public assistance so those that have that are lethal to the economy here. They are not paying in taxes but they take from those that do. I also fear that by coming here under illegal terms will cause my childrens future to be tough. There may not be any jobs for them when they grow up and go out into the world. They certainly don't have the advantage of being bilegual from childhood. The best they have is a Spanish class in highschool. Immigrant children speak Spanish and then have English classes everyday for their whole childhood. I don't see the logic either but Obama says it's not feasible to force them back.

Wow, you taught me something new. I know that some immigrants work for less in the U.S., but I thought only along the lines of landscaping and construction. Also, I thought every job offered some form of insurance or an insurance plan.. even for part time employees. Wow... that's crazy!!! And, you're right.... if they already get a break, public assistance should not be an option. There are so many people already abusing the system that they should go ahead and cut out any new applicants. I know a girl personally that is on the system.... for everything and she's content. She's content with having nothing more than what the government gives her and isn't even looking for employment. People like her disgust me. They make it a million times harder for people that are actually trying to get on their feet and just use the system to do what it was designed to do, help TEMPORARILY until the individual and their family can sustain. I took two years of Spanish in high school and though, not fluent, I can read and understand Spanish, respond to others if they slow down their words and write Spanish. It will definitely be a necessity in the future. It's also good to know French. However, other than Spanish, I only took Latin. I agree with you and I fear for my child's future, too. Because the competition is hard now, I know it will be a lot worse in the future. All I can do is prepare her for this and make sure she receives the proper education to succeed. Another good point. Obama. I am kind of teed off that he is so FOR immigration like that won't put our country in a worse state than it is already. He is actually (as of right now) trying to sue the governor of a state for trying to push illegal immigrants OUT of her state. I am kind of disappointed right now with the transition that the U.S. is taking at this time.
