Do You Care About Words?

Happy weekend everyone! I love to discover new things even I'm no longer attending school. Each day is an opportunity for me to learn. And here's what I'm going gaga over right now: W O R D S! I love to add new words to my vocabulary everyday. Each time I read an unfamiliar word I'd try to search its meaning and often use it in a sentence so that I can recall it easily. I also look for its synonyms which are commonly used and instead of using the common word, I'd use this new word of the same meaning. And I'm having so much fun using it especially here in Mylot. I wonder if you, guys, do care about learning new words, too. Or you think it is a nerdy thing to do.:-)

Hi Eureka! Ha! Ha! You appear like me or should I say that we are on the same board. I also keep looking for new words/phrases which appear double dutch to me. It is always fruitful to learn new words, as kids keep asking about meaning of so many words with the hope that their father i.e. me, is well versed in English vocabulary. I am a learner and I find it interesting to learn new words/phrases.

Like a doting Dad that you always are, dear.:-) It works perfectly well for you, too, I believe since you have an offline job and you do write good articles, as well. Having an unlimited vocabulary now a days is an edge to this rat race competition. You never knew who you will be talking to any minute.;-) I'm glad we are friends. I can see that I can learn so much from you. I amcurious as a cat, dear, especially on this subject.:-) Thank you for your thoughts and my apology for the late response. Sending my best to you.:-)

To me English is a second language. I learnt it simply for the love of it. Initially, I was obsessed with the idea of adding new words to my vocabulary. I am a regular subscriber to reader's digest. In this magazine, there is a chapter on 'Word Power'. It has a fine collection of new words. I like to add new words to my knowledge for one reason that whenever I come across it I should be familiar with it. However, I avoid using such word in every day parlance because then I am likely to be misunderstood. Besides, I might not be able to convey what I want to say properly. The purpose of any language is to make one as expressive as necessary. To have a large vocabulary the mind must have a dual core processor, a ram of a bigger capacity and a bigger hard disk. Further, it would occupy a bigger space of mind's hard disk. I like to use shorter sentence, words that everyone can understand. Not everyone likes to refer to a dictionary each time one come across a new word. They would rather flip the page and read something else. You are right; I do think it is a nerdy thing to do.

Hello, Achilles. :) My apology for the late response to your comment... Anyways, I do agree with you that using shorter and simplier words are best understood than those uncommonly used. In our day to day conversation here, wherein not all of us can perfectly understand each and every meaning of the word, it is logical to use the simpler form. I also read reader's digest and I am collecting some back issues. I haven't made up my mind yet if to subscribe to it or not anymore.:-) Thank you for sucj logical thoughts, dear. Have a great evening.;-)

Hi, Cher.:-) Thanks for being the first to respond.:-) I used to love reading the dictionary when I was a student but since I already have access in the internet, I'd rather search the word via internet rather than the conventional dictionary. I hope this isn't the case, dear.Though it is not necessary to learn those complicated words but it is an advantage if we do learn something more than what we are so used to, isn't it?

I am learning new words quite often. In fact Mylot had helped me to learn many new words.I am a non English speaking person, so my vocabulary may not be that good, so I keep learning to get me equipped as a blogger.

Good morning, Vijay.:-) It is of no doubt that you are quite doing a good job learning new words and improving your grammar, ei. I'm not an expert but as far as I know you are can express yourself in English better than those who are exposed to the language. Kudos to you my dear.:-)

Yes, I do care about them. I like to rech my vocabulary. I think it is important to practice them within sentences but we should look for how to learn them and spell them correctly.
