As we all know, 2011 world cup is scheduled to start on February 19, 2011 featuring 14 countries. There's not much time left yet, India have to participate in 11 test matches before world cup. Let me list them as series wise: India is touring Sri Lanka in a couple of weeks to play 3 test matches and a triangular ODI series involving New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The tour ends on August 25th. Starting from October 2nd, (thankfully, team India has got over 1 month break after the previous series) Australia tours India. Australia play 2 test matches and 3 ODIs. The tour ends on October 24th. And in only 10 days gap, New Zealand tous India to play 3 test matches. (No ODI matches). And in other couple of weeks, India tours South Africa to play 3 test matches and 5 ODIs. That's totally 11 test matches and only 8 ODIs (excluding the triangular series in Sri Lanka) Now, I agree India is the Number 1 ranked team in test matches but, with the world cup being only 8 months away, I think the number of test matches India gonna play is a little too much. In fact, they should be focusing on playing more ODIs than test considering the fact that the world cup is not so far away. Thoughts please

well first of all,the indians got a ready made excuse if they get knocked out in the first round itself which has a probability of 72 %. but there are other things to look at. dravid and laxman plays only test matches these days so they wont be bothered at all.infact, they will be jumping with joy considering they played in only 2 series last year. next sachin loves test matches .if it is a bangladesh series,he will get rest but look at it.srilanka, newzealand, australia and south africa. sachin may have world cup as his topmost priority but given this much temptation,he will go for it. the major worry will be bowlers.our bowling spearhead zach plays all three format and very prone to injury just like now.we dont have a quickie who can finish of the tail like zaheer these days. so that leaves players like sehwag, gambhir, dhoni and bhajji. never take out sehwag.you will lose quarter of the battle. may be try another opener giving gambhir rest and probably another spinner to rest bhajji a match or 2. if the management knows how to play the players, then there should be no worries and hopefully no complaints.

This time it is VERY easy for the Indian team to qualify for quarter final as its enough to win 4 matches in the first round to qualify for the quarter final. This time the format is set just like 1996 world cup. There are no super 8. India plays against Netherlands, Ireland, Bangladesh, England, West Indies and South Africa and out of these 6 matches, its enough for India to win against Netherlands, Ireland, Bangladesh and just 1 out of 3 matches against either England, West Indies or South Africa. India automatically qualifies for Quarter final. India plays only in quarter final so as the other teams, which is a knock-out. And if India wins this 1 match, they go for semi final. India has good record when it comes to knock-out tournaments and this time I think it will be no different so, there's a LOT more hope for India this time than the past.

no dont think like that , these are all good training for india to play long matches and chances for the young stars to play for their country, and as we are the world no 1 in tests we have the responsibility to keep it and that is why. but 8 onedayers are not enough , i think with newzeland too we can play 5 one days and thus we can increase the number of one days

Well friend if too many ODI's played M S Dhoni will say team is tired. So, it is better not play many matches before World Cup so that team will be fit and with some form before the World Cup. In my view India chances of Winning World cup in 2011 is just 1%. I do not think India has that much ability win a World Cup. Whenever a major tournament comes India will come up with some excuse and lose. So, I am sure that this time too nothing new happens. I hope test matches will bring Sehwag and Yuvaraj into some sort of batting form. Let us hope for best, what else can we expect more.

i agree with you.Indian selectors can help indian team.indian selectors can do some favour by making some ODI players to sit for test matches.with that sittings our players can avoid unnecessary injuries our players can concentrate on one type of game can give oppurtunities for upcoming players.

Too many Test series and one day matches will surely strain the players senior players have to take some kind of rest after playing some matches and give chances to the youngster players. Players like Sachin have to play minimum matches to focus more on the world cup matches.
