Should the court do away with alimony payments

Nowadays, when women work, I don't see a reason for men to have to pay alimony. In the past it was to ensure that the woman who had no skills outside of homemaking could still live the lifestyle she was accustomed to, however nowadays it is just wrong to have to give a working woman alimony payments. However, child support is a different matter and it should be given.

It depends. If the woman played a role in getting the man to the point where he could command a high income -- worked to support him while he was in college/grad school, participated in the social functions that are part of doing business at a certain level, etc. -- she is properly entitled to a portion of that income even after the marriage dissolves.

In consideration of this fact, I agree with this statement, so this I think is true. However I am speaking of the every day normal woman, I think if she is out working and doing she should not expect alimony or visa versa.

It depends on the situation. If its the guy leaving the women for another women...then i think alimony is ok. if the girl is leaving the guy...then why should he pay alimony. Well when it comes to support the child then its fine. will that be call alimony.

No child support is the support for the child and alimony is the support for the woman or man, however I don't think that if the marriage ends that a person should have to pay for that person forever, I think there should be some help till they get on their feet and can do for themselves though.

Absolutely not. The reasons for alimony now are the same as they were in the past. There are many reasons why a couple decide that one partner stay at home with or without children. When divorce happens there should not be an additional penalty on one party.
