I have read this book and find it very motivating and would love to believe that all good things are possible, but I am afraid my mind is not powerful enough to overcome the negative things in life. Have any of you read this book, tell me your thoughts on it?

I have read the book, and I wouldn't put too much faith in it anyway (and of course, that is my opinion.) - There is a website that is based on this, allegedly gathering scientific evidence that it does work. http://www.theintentionexperiment.com/
A more impressive book to me was A Drunkard's Walk How Randomness Rules our Lives. One can plan and scheme all one wants but in the end, there is a random factor that determines the success of the plans laid out.
A few weeks ago I heard a preacher talk about books like this being given to people being laid off, and he points out why didn't the business owners use the principles themselves to help stop the economic situation causing the layoffs?
Now I'm not saying that one shouldn't plan or dream. We are human after all, and the randomness can always be in our favor. But there is no need to put oneself down when things do not go as one would hope. There is no shame in starting over.

That is a really good point about the business owners using the book to help their workers. I definitely feel I am on the crossroads of something, I just don't know what it is.

Thank you for choosing my response as the Best Response. It's been a while ...
About managing negative thoughts, what has worked for me was anger management classes (that was one of the issues with me) and a gradual re-education that as a person, I am really not that bad, and the parts of me that I don't like, I can work to change them. I took advantage of some free counseling that is available in my area. Perhaps you can visit government mental health clinics to see what is available. I hope they haven't all gone with the recent cuts.
One thing I have done on my own was get back into looking into spiritual communities. I recently became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association and I am active in several groups. I felt it got me closer to feeling normal especially since I was a bit of a hermit these past few years.
Meditation is another subject you can look into.

I find your response very interesting as I too have a powerful negative mind. I have been forced to though. No matter how much I try I feel my mind overcomes any good thoughts.
I will also be looking into some of your suggestions as I have been on a whirl wind of unhappy thoughts in the last 2 years. Not by choice though, I have always had to fend for myself and with the current circumstance I am experiencing I have no choice but to fret about being afraid to continue on. Therefore I jump in and out of negative thoughts every other second of the day.
Thank you for your wonderful advice, although here in Chicago the resources are limited.

Ive read this book a few times, I dont completely know whether it works yet but I cant see the harm in it. Whether the power of attraction and positive thinking works or not at least now I have a more positive state of mind. There are some things in the book that I dont quite understand, but the idea that you can just attract what you want just with the power of your mind sounds very good, and its not going to hurt anyone if I try it!

That is exactly how I feel. If nothing else it always makes me feel more centered about some stressful events I am going through. It also helps calm my mind, sometimes I think about things so far in advance that my mind never stops racing.

I read this book a few years back and I truly believe if you put your mind into it anything is possible. You have to be a positive person to begin with for it to work. A person who negative is just going to bring negative karma to their aura. I feel thinking positive and thinking of good things to bring into your life you are putting positive energy out there and it will come back to give you positive things in your life.

I am really trying to get rid of the negative thoughts that I have because regardless of this book or anything, negative thoughts do not help anyone in any way. They just make me more stressed and also have affected my health adversely.
