Gift of the gab

There are many discussions here that make for a good read, I'm always amused by the witty responses some of the mylotters put in here. I am amazed by how people can communicate so well with words, and even more amazed if they use very little of it to convey a deep meaning.
Would you consider yourself to be someone who are good with words, either in talking or in writing? Are you gifted with this talent or you have acquired this over the years?

I believe I am gifted with good diction and enunciation. People listen when I talk. But the gift of gab is for the likes of John Kennedy and Benigno Aquino Jr. These two speak as they think. Could be 90 words a minute, I am not sure. And they are never wrong!

Hi eileen, you are blessed! How I envy you for your talent
Many leaders are indeed good speakers, but my question is, do good speakers make good politicians?
p.s. I didn't know people make a count of how many words per minute they speak, I must time myself one day.

There are but a few good speakers who are good politicians as well. Kennedy and Aquino speak at such a speed with clarity. What they talk about are always unscripted but sound.
bluemoon, read a newspaper editorial and record yourself. Count the words and check the time. Practice makes perfect.

I think I am good with words, on paper and in person. I don't know if witty is the word. But I try to keep my posts open minded, with my opinion and emotions still intact. Sometimes that isn't the easiest to do. It's the people who can give critique without being rude and give a compliment without being too forward and know when to speak and when to stay silent that are best with words.

That is an ideal form of communications! We all like to speak or write well, something with a good content but without offending people. It takes a lot of practice to exercise self-restraint and speak only what's necessary.

bluemoonpavilion I do feel that I am good with words as I have done a lot of writing in my life, and I love to write.I have indeed acquired this
over the three years I have been here. I can also talk well with people I love but am shy with srangers.

hi hatley, I have enjoyed many of your responses so far! I think it's great that you are so good with words or maybe you are a good learner, being able to hone your skills over the years. I hope I can succeed with my writing one day too.

I do not think that I have it, but some people think otherwise. It seems that there are people who think that I am a funny guy. I tend to see myself as a serious person. The things they saw as funny were serious issues. Maybe it was the way I uttered the words.
As forwriting I try not to bore my readers with the same words. Whenever possible I use synonyms, and sometimes I get overboard with the choice of words.
I think I am better at writing than talking.

Good for you! I have met people who dole out jokes with a poker face, maybe you are one of them.

I personally prefer to write than gab. I think I write better than I gab.
i think there is some element of "gift" and honing over the years....
A well-timed word can prevent a war. Or an ill-spoken one can create much stress. Do you not agree.

I prefer to write too as I can amend the wording and present it in the best light, but sometimes I like gabbing too with a lot of excitement and exchange upfront. It depends on my mood and the situation I'm in.
I would think you have the gift for writing.
