The Flag of Your Country

I was watching ESPN, and they were talking about the World Cup. When talking about who is still in the competition, they put the flag of each country next to the country's name. I thought about how pretty one particular flag was (there was also a flag that I got a bad feeling from, but for the sake of peace I won't say which one). That made me think of my country's flag, the American flag. And how beautiful I think it is. There are several flags I think are pretty, including the flag of the United Kingdom.
Do you like the looks of your flag? I mean just the basic look of it? Of course it is your country's flag and one feels loyal to it. No one wants to say anything bad about your own flag. Would you change anything about yours?
I've included a picture of the flag of Oklahoma, the state in which I live. Each of the 50 states in the U.S. have their own individual state flag. I like the Oklahoma flag too, although not as much as my American flag. Any other Americans like their state flag? Do you think it is "appropriate" for your state?

Hi AmbiePam, your flag, the stars and stripes, is very familiar to the world, of course. And I do know that the stars represent each state. That means that you have 51 stars there. But I do not know what the stripes are for. Please do tell.
As for our Philippine flag, we have a sun with 8 rays which stands for 1 nation and the provinces that fought for freedom, 3 stars which represent the three major islands, the blue on top, and the red at the bottom. When the flag is hoist with red on top, that means the country is at war. Blue stands for peace.

Is that by virtue of being the nation's capital?

Good discussion Ambie..Though I knew a little of what Ohio's flag looked like, I did some research and got some history info on it..I have to say that I like it, it is different in it has a swallowtail design. Here is a link that tells you more:http://www.usa4kids.com/flags/Ohio.html
And I really like the American flag as well as Israel's flag...

One day I'd like to have one. I have like a ton of American flags to hand held ones to huge ones that go on a flagpole, but no Israeli flag..

You are right. Our flag is beautiful! And it has so much meaning.....Our state flag is also beautiful and depicts Minnesota in the best of lights....I am very proud of both of them. One of our floats at the parade this year had all fifty state flags....I thought that was pretty cool!

I like our Australian flag although I was born in Italy. I prefer the Aussie flag and this country feels more like home than Italy ever did. There were talks of changing our flag at one time; I don’t remember the details and I’m glad they didn’t go ahead with the changes...
