Some time ago I was searching for free domain registrations too, but unfortunately there was only such free domains, which wasn't with traditional com, net or org. Free domain can register at co.cc and in yola.com you can make free website. If you want your own domain with ending - com, net etc. then cheaper version you can get on godaddy.com where also can be found cheap hosting plans.

In godaddy you can get some domains only for 2 or less dollars and you by this domains for year or two. I have looked other sites which offer domain names and hosting plans, but this one is cheaper from all them.

The cheapest domain that you can get in Godaddy are .info domains, you can get them for $1.17, however, take note that the renewal after 1 year isn't going to be cheap. If you want a .com,.net or a .org domain then it would cost you around $8-$9.99, it depends if you can find a coupon for more discount.

I will not advise anybody to go for free web hosting service. This is because, you might wake up one morning only to find out that your site is gone and you have no grounds to query the web hosters. I will recommend godaddy.com or any other cheap hosting service providers on the net. Hope this helps.

You asked what is the best site to register a domain name? Well, I advise you to register a domain name with the site that will host your website. Let's say for example, if you are planning to buy a hosting package for your website to make it professional, with companies like HostGator, they also have domain name registration service. Of course, you can register a domain name for lower price with GoDaddy and have your site be hosted with HostGator, but it will take some time before the process is finished. So, for faster process, make sure it's the same company that register your domain name and at the same time host your website for you.
