Pets you Never See

For my birthday I got a pair of hermit crabs, who ended up being named Zoidberg and Crabby Patty. Well, the night I brought them home Patty burried herself. So did Zoidberg. They spend all day every day burried. Zoidberg will come up, usually late at night, and eat. But if I touch him he will quickly re-burry himself. I've not seen Patty again since. Crab forums tell me this is totally natural, since they are new and probably stressed out, but my husband is teasing me about having pets we never see. Have you ever had hermit crabs? Were they hidey or social?

I never had them as pets.. But if they are like the wild ones they are out and about when people are not around or looking the moment a light comes on or someone enters the room they disapear into the sand.. When I visit south carolina on the beaches I noticed they were out and about more around sunrise and sunset .. cause it was hot in the daylight.. and at night they crawled all over the place.. as I showed off to my sisters mother that I could successfully catch them caught a baby by burying my hand in the sand so it basically went to hide from me and buried itself right in my hand.. poor thing was confused.. I let it go in the same spot I caught it of course. :) ... they played peekabo alot on the beaches of North carolina that was fun. I am from Wisconsin so I do not get that chance often.
