i just heard startling news on the radio. that those who drink sugary sodas each day are more prone to bone fractures and dont have as much bone density as non soda drinkers. this may not matter to you as a young person, but bone density is something huge to older people. will this slow down your drinking? or caution to the wind?

This could be true, I stop taking soda about 4 years ago! The sugar level in soda does not make it a good beverage and if some one is alleging that soda destroys the bones, I would like to believe him/her because soda could actually kill with diabetes.

Totally right! You should especially watch out for sodas when diabetes runs in your family. Carbs and sodas are probably the leading causes of bringing out the Diabetis in people. And Coke definitely takes some calcium away, I can feel it every time I drink the stuff. Plus because of this I heard it's bad for teeth as well. +!

Exactly! There's evidence enough for you. Haven't noticed it on other drinks like Sprite or Rootbeer though. I'd have to test again cos it's been so long since I've drank the stuff. +!

I've heard of this but it's something that I'm not sure is as bad as people make out. I mean there's some kids who don't stop drinking the stuff, so I don't see the amount that I do would seriously harm me in anyway. If it was as dangerous as people claimed surely it wouldn't be sold? Well I dunno but I don't drink as much of it. I drink pure juices mainly, so..

This is true not only of sugary sodas but diet sodas as well. the phosphate in the carbonated water leaches calcium from your bones. I probably won't give them up completely, but I am trying to cut down. They also can cause regular abdominal bloating, as is the case with me.

I drink diet coke, a lot. So, I don't know if this classifies as sugary soda, as I know that aspartame is the main ingredient for diet sodas. I do know that it is not good for my health, but I am trying to cut back. But I couldn't find a drink that would have the same fizz as diet coke, for me at least. Did I mention that I drink it for breakfast?

I've also heard that even diet sodas make you fat - so I've cut down on them, not given them up completely, but gone from 3-5 a DAY to maybe 1-5 a WEEK! and some weeks - none!

Hi Cher, Well the one thing I don't do is drink fizzy drinks but I take extra calcium for my bones anyway so guess I will be okay. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi, cher913. I am not much of a soda drinker anyway. I never was. I love all flavors of sodas, don't get me wrong. But I don't drink a lot of sodas. I drink a lot of milk at my age now. If I was a soda drinker, I would really consider slowing it down. I hope that other soda lovers can do the same thing too. I drink zero Pepsi. I don't drink anything that has too much of sugar in it.

Hey cher~ I haven't heard this yet. But, it's too late for me anyway! I've been a soda drinker all my life! I now have switched to Diet Coke for many years not, but they say Diet Soda is no good for you either! I have a bone density problem already and broke my shoulder about four years ago when I slipped in my hallway coming in from taking the garbage out while it was raining. It still won't get me to stop drinking my Diet Coke!

I never knew that but I'm glad that I know it now! I used to drink a lot of these types of drinks but thankfully I have given up on them now, it's better for me I guess. I think that we are being given so much advice in today's climate as regards what we can and cannot have and it's becoming overwhelming I think. I think that there has to be a balance in life and it's nice to have some of the bad stuff if I can call it that from time to time! I'm trying to live a more healthier lifestyle though which involves daily exercise. Anyway, I'm still quite young I think, about 35 and my bones feel ok I have to admit! I guess I'm doing something right at this stage! Andrew

I LOVE coke, I'm addicted, but it's sooo true! They made an experiment once, they put a tooth inside a glass of coke (tooth is bone, right?) than they left it there for 24 hours I THINK... when they went to see it, the tooth was soft! This is awful!

You must be cautious of your soda intake including the so called diet soda. They do your body no good than harm. They are loaded with sugar which can even make you add weight apart from bone fractures. Take caution

Then maybe the soda companies better start adding calcium to soda. I thought though there was a vitamin filled soda on the market perhaps coke? Afterall they enrich everything else that's processed why not. I think we should all drink more milk and water... much better for us in the long run.

I slowed down awhile ago but I still need my Coke in the morning. I'm not a big coffee drinker and tea makes me pee a LOT. Coca Cola hits the spot to help me wake up and get energized in the morning. After that, though, I stick to water, juice and iced tea (as long as I'm near a bathroom, lol). I drink juices without added sugar. When I make lemonade, I use Splenda. I'm not sure if Splenda would reduce bone density but I'm also not going to worry about it. We only live once, right?

Wow, that's interesting. I never knew that. I mean, anyone can tell that soda is bad for you, especially if you drink it excessively, but yeah. I've been trying to cut back how much I drink soda to begin with, especially now that I'm pregnant. I've gotten it to where I rarely drink soda now except for the occasional sprite on those long nights at work when I feel like I just want something carbonated. ^_^ But now that I've managed to nearly cut it out altogether I'm going to try to keep it that way to hopefully lose weight and make me a little bit healthier. :)

I had never heard this, but there is supposed to be a link between carbonated drinks and pancreatic cancer. According to a US survey, those who drink two or more sugary, fizzy soft drinks a day have a substantially greater chance of suffering the above.

Everithink when it used each day or so often is bad man.For soda i think u need to do second check cuz i know the carboned drinks are bad for stomach if u drink them every day.But for the bones i'm pretty sure it will be bad if the soda is mineral, cuz the fluorid they put in mineral water and mineral soda's,but u can check it.They are telling that fluorid is good for keep teeth strong and white and shiny. But the true is only about the white and shiny, fluoride cause bone desises.

There are more health problems related to sodas than just that. I personally have a sick addiction to sodas. I wish I could kick the habit, it's just very difficult!! :(
