If you have a really big test coming up do you still study 5 hours before?

Having read an article from a book, I found out that studying for a test a day before the actual test can actually already be termed as "cramming" where you only retain in your mind the stuff you studied/reviewed a day before the test. They recommend that the day before a big test should be reserved for resting and relaxation. What are your thoughts on this? Please do elaborate.

i am one of diehard fan of last minute club.i love study last minute but i have to admit the knowledge might retain for only the next day as it will vanished right after you finish your exam.luckily,i understand what i have studied so it will last longer in my mind.but without regular practice it will gone like a wind.so i need to reread to refresh them back and make it last longer, i hope forever.

Yes, this is a really good realization. I have also experienced this on some of my minor subjects in school. I get good grades from them since I study and memorize a lot a day before the actual exam but after a week I barely remember most of it. On my major subjects on the other hand, I keep on reading the stuff we learn in school and even reread it a day before the test and it is stuck in my mind even a few months after.

Why would you say that you are better at cramming? Have you even tried reading your notes a while about a day before your test and have low marks compared to cramming during the last moments before a test? Please do explain your answer.

I think it's alright to study the day before an exam as long as you also study enough before hand. It might be hard to retain information if it's the first time you look at it one the last day but it might be a helpful review when you go over information you are already somewhat familiar with. For me, I study until I flop down on my bed.

Usually I started reviewing a month or longer before tests whose grade would be calculated into final result. I skim over all the knowledge one time quickly in one day. It cost me a little time. But when the test came, I had reviewed all things 30 times, so I could get a good score in the test. I never put all the reviewing work in the last day and sat up late cramming.

Good strategy you got going in there. I would say that this is very effective since It is quite similar to my studying habit. I usually prepare a lot of time before a major test just so that I would not be cramming on the last hours or minutes before the test since I the information in my head just get scrambled up and I get metal blocked during the test. Kudos to you qianyun6!

Yes, this is the kind of answer I was looking for. You shouldn't study for a major exam like a whole day board exam ten hours before the said exam since it will already be considered as cramming. Only the stuff you review/ study within those 10 hours will be retained in your mind and keep looping back and forth through it. It is better to rest your mind during this hours instead.

in written that we should do that but usually when come to real we might not be able practice that. More closer of exam date more panic, mostly last three day only study and put all the thing inside our memory. Sometime really good as still fresh but sometime the thing we memorised become mixed and incomplete. I agreed with your article, If we can pratice and study in earlier, the last minute revise won't be so crammed.

Well that's what most books say anyways as they do not believe in last minute studies but it really is helpful. Before an exam if i don't know something then i would learn that from my friend. But if i don't know anything then i would try and mug up things as fast as possible and hence i would pass in the exam. I don't really like studying something until and unless it's really interesting. I always prefer studying in last minute even though many people prefer long term studies. I do long term studies in only those subjects which interest me.
