Need help with name of movie

I watched this black and white film a few months ago and cannot remember the name of it. It movie was about a husband and wife who were building there dream house. They originally started out living in an apartment with there children. In the process of building there house they kept having to remake the designs to fit their budget. I remember one scene when the husband gets locked in the closet of the unfinished house.
