How many hours per week do you work on your craft

I am asking this question because I was at the doctors office a month ago, and I read an article where the crafter stated she spends 10 to 15 hours per week marketing her products, and 20 hours making her products. I felt bad after I read her article because I do not spend half the time she does. This might account for my not making any money, and I should probably spend more time on the business. How many hours do you spend on crafting and marketing per week? The person mentioned in the article does work full time.

Well, I'm not trying to market my stuff, but I generally don't work more than an hour or so a week on whatever project I'm working on. However, because my sister was in town and because I've been out at the roomie's folks, I have actually FINISHED a project I started less than 10 days ago (because I didn't have the shirt to sew on until the first...) Another Christmas present in the bag, so to speak...

Well, why not consider adding an extra half an hour and create other Christmas gifts. I am planning to commit at least 15 hours a week on my craft. I want to try selling some for the holidays.

well, I do have a little part time job, and I have to go visit my mom, and then there's all the fun I have on mylot... right now I'm sorting thru a box of beads... I just don't have a lot of time to craft and I have TONS of jewelry made already...

I'm lucky because my hubby helps with my promoting, and stops in at one of the shops where I do consignment to bring in new product, or pick-up pieces that need to be cleaned. He probably spends about 2-3 hours each week promoting for me, and any sea glass I need drilled is also done by him (I guess that adds up to about 90 minutes every 4-6 weeks) I spend at least an hour a day promoting, maybe 1.5 hours a day on my days off from work (yes, I work full-time also)and I spend anywhere from 5-7 hours each week creating. Factor in taking pictures, cropping images, listing new items, going through my sea glass collection to pick out pieces to be used in future creations and I would imagine that I spend about 25 hours each week on my business, 27-28 including my DH. Considering how much time I spend, versus the amount of money I make...I'm not sure I'm making any money either, but I am making sales and I'm always looking for new opportunities. This coming week, I'll probably spend an extra 4 or 5 hours making extra product for a show on the weekend....hopefully, I'll be rewarded for my time.

Wow, you are investing a lot of time. I think eventually the people who succeed are the ones who invest the time and effort. It may not happen immediately but eventually it will happen. One day, you will have a blooming business and don't even have to work that full time job. I am trying to spend more time on my business especially with the holidays less than six months away.

Hopefully, it'll work out that way...wouldn't it great to have a home based business that you enjoy doing & it pays all the bills too! My dream job I'm trying to think ahead for the holidays, but right now, summer time has me busy...and I guess that's a good thing!

Just depends on what else I have going on and whether or not I really like what I am making. I mostly do gifts to give away for Christmas, birthdays, weddings, etc. so I don't do any promoting or selling. Some weeks I work on my crafts (mostly cross stitching) a lot and sometimes I make go a week and not work on it at all. Just depends on what I am doing that week and how busy I am. Good luck with your crafting and I hope you business goes well.

I spend a few hours a week....unless there is a craft show coming up. I just returned from spending five days with my friend in Wisconsin and we stamped for most of the time....hour upon hour....but usually I just get about 10 hours a week unless like I said I have a show coming up.

maybe if I did the same amount of hours, I also would be selling more. I really need to work on that. I want to always be busy working on a craft order. I tend to only work on my crafts anymore in between the computer. I will crochet and such while games loads, while videos play, or while surfing a traffic exchange. Marsha

I find when you set a schedule things get accomplish. Like today, I cook, went to church exercise, and will devote two hours on my craft. If you set aside, even a half an hour a day it adds up.

Oh, sure, post this to remind me that I haven't added my July creation to my CafePress abitosunshine! Seriously, I multi-task in a myriad of writing assignments, web design clients, and money-making projects, and I really do need to add some items to my shop. Every time I do I make bunches of sales. So thanks for the reminder that I need to get to this ToDo!

Wow, you sound busy. I thought about CafePress but never got around to it. I do write for a couple companies as well. I am into a lot of things because my dream is to be self-employed. It is really difficult, but I won't give up.

Yes, she is busy. I admire her for that, and I know I really need to do more on my business. I like to read articles like hers.

I spend about five hours a week now. This will probably change after my salt dough gets hard enough for me to paint (it should be ready for painting on Wednesday). I will also start my bath salts this coming weekend. I am also hoping to buy felt this Saturday so I can make my felt ornaments (it depends on if I have the money). I have not started the family gifts yet, but I hope to soon. The first thing I will start with is my niece's book.

Hi Venshida!. I never really alloted my time to do my craft every week. I am a little to moody when making my crochet project. Recently I made a bag but in middle of the process I feel really bored about it so I abandon it, maybe I will continue it when I gain my mood back.

It is better to take time off when you do not feel in the mood. I do that sometimes.
