Ashamed of my Impulsive Spending

No wonder I have such a little bit of money for food. I just spent $20 to buy Farmville cash so I could expand my farm. Is that stupid or what? It’s not refundable. Is there a 12-step group for people like me called Impulsive Spenders Anonymous? I also spend money gambling. Unfortunately, I live only 8 miles from a casino. Twice a week the casino offers “free play.” All I have to spend is $1.00 to activate my $20.00 in free play. Do I take my winnings home when I do win? Oh no. I put it back into the slot machine thinking I’ll win a more substantial amount to take home. I’m a sick puppy and by this confession to the myLot world – I guess I’m asking for help, although I know I haven’t reached bottom. I’ll do the gambling again…but hopefully I won’t buy more Farmville cash to expand a play farm in a play world. I have over 4 million coins. If I have to spend real dollars for cyber-land – no use going on. You get my drift. Just say no??? Just think about how I can’t afford good food because all my money goes for nonsense? I’m scared of who I’ve become.

Is there anything else that can keep your attention just as much as Farmville or gambling? You already realize that playing Farmville and gambling are bad for you. Now what you need to do is figure out how to stop yourself. If you could find some other hobby or some other activity that keeps your attention just as much, you could do that instead of Farmville or gambling. Being prone to addiction can be a good thing if you're using that trait to do something good and productive with it rather than something that's harmful to you. Try to think of all the other areas of life in which you tend to be addicted or impulsive and see if you can find a hobby or pastime from those.

I really like the way you've thought about the addiction. It could be a good thing if it's focused in a positive direction. I appreciate your response.

Oh Joyce4, I cannot believe you have done that! You must be really addicted to that game, best you go back to reaqding books insted of FB eh! At least with the casino it is limited to $1 so even though you put your winnings back in you aren't gambling your own money away in a sense. Play the games Joyce but don't go buying the extras, it is not that important and you will be able to expand at some stage eh! Huggles. Ellie :D

I bought the extra acreage so I could do the co-op farming more easily when no one joins me. Now that we're neighbors, maybe the two of us along with others can get a gold medal, and lots of coins & experience points! Maybe I need a life off-line, huh!

joyce maybe you really should look into gamblers anonymous before you do get hooked for sure into gambling . they must have branches all over the Us I am sure. I do not have enough money to waste it gambling myself but I do overspend on clothes. lol lol.

I've been to gamblers anonymous. The gambling won. I'm disappointed in myself that I haven't reached bottom. I get such joy out of certain favorite slot machines. Spending money on Farmville is what really bothers me more than any other foolish spending. I don't even have a chance of winning anything with Farmville.

Impulsive spending is a crime???!!! Sometime I spend a lot for the thing I don't really need. Like when I dropping by at the Mall and suddenly they are on going sale!I'll buy some stuff because it is a sale and eye catching item, before i realize that is out of my budget and no way to return it back... Now a days that our economic stability is not doing well, I realized that i always give a justice for every centavo that I spend! Good Day!!!

We all have to discipline ourselves to avoid impulse buying. It will go along way to getting us out of certain addictions like gambling among others

Hi bentreed and welcome to myLot. What are some ways of developing self-discipline, a trait which I seem to be lacking?

The frist step is in admitting you think it is wrong..the second step is trying to do something about it and getting help and support..The free play casino plays sounds like fun and only 2 dollars a week so that is not bad and it is something fun to do and gets you out of the house..but would be best if you set aside a few dollars u win..and not spend..then spend the rest..but with farmville..yeah I know how addicting that game can be..that is why I had to quit I was spending all my tie online on that and a few other games. Lucky I didn't have cash to spend on stuff. I had to quit and felt so much better for it..and had time to start doing the things I was missing out of when I was doing farmville..I was putting it before other things I needed to do and people..and that to me wasn't healthy so like a bad habit I quickly quit cold turkey then blocked it..I know it is still there and alot of friends still play it..but it is just best i sty away from it..or else I will get sucked in again..

unless you are happy spending much of your money to something, it would be adversed if you cant control yourself your whole life. well, too many people nowadays even if they were poor spend much money on their recreation and gambling although they had no enough food at their table to eat when they go home. as of my self, i spent 20 pesos a day for lottery, although i havent won yet the jackpot but still i bet and im oping to win someday..i have no work and only relying on my aunt for survival. lucky i am that i have still my relatives caring for me though i have no parents anymore..

Wow--well as others have suggested, maybe you really should consider Gamblers Anonymous, before you're gambling gets out of hand. I don't even buy Lotto/lottery tickets since I guess I'm realistic..do I spend my benefits money on that, or do I buy more food for my kitty Kissy? As for Farmville...LOL. I'm addicted to a lot of games over at FB, but again realistic about using real money to buy "fake" money..it just isn't practical for me to do---if I were to use money for something I'd rather buy say a DVD movie for myself which is just about the same cost of Farmville cash So---naughty girl

If you really can't stop spending on those things you do, try limiting your spending first and slowly reduce the amount until you can stop spending on those activities. I used to have the same problem with shopping but I conquered that problem by disciplining myself on sleeping over something before buying it. If I still think I need to purchase something after thinking it over and over again that will be the only time I purchase it.
