lupus

My dog is 3 years old. She has lupus after knee surgery. Now she is on predsone 40 mg a day. She is suffering from sores in mouth and on her tongue. Is there any natural herbs she could take and get off this medicine. She is getting so big can't walk to good either. Thanks, Judy

What worries you about the prednisone? Is it the cost, or the concern about potential side affects? I know it's not quite the same, but we have a pet albino ferret with liver issues that's been on prednisone for 3-4 years now. Every time we try to wean him off of the prednisone, he gets really sick. After trying this 4 or 5 times over the course of a year or two, we've finally given up. He takes his prednisone every day and is as healthy as can be expected. The pharmacist mixes it with honey, so the ferret thinks it's a treat. If your dog doesn't like it, you might have your pharmacist try that. Good luck!
