I guess at the end the luck desert them. I think twice they should have put the game beyond doubt with Robben and spain should have ramos sent off. But in the end it was not meant to be. It is so sad to see them lose again. I wonder what they must do in order to win the world cup.

That's OK write. It was just a game. I bet on Netherlands too even though the octopus choose Spain. It was should be penalty shoot-out if John Heitinga was not sent off. Ineasta made him get the second yellow card and then Ineasta was not covered. Ineasta could make a goal since no one of the dutch marked him. In my opinion, the referee shouldn't sent Heitinga off. That was very crucial match. Furthermore, Heitinga didn't make fatal foul. However, referee was just human. He could did a mistake.

de_toya the world cup is not just a game, people have got killed because he scored and own goal that knock the team of of the world cup in 1994. Spain defender should have been sent of for a foul on Robben and he was the last man towards goal and it would have been a direct red. Oranje would have got a penalty. And would be the end of spanish armada. I guess it is the oranje cruse, always in the finals but never the winners

You are right. It was not just a game. Many peoples bet and hope there would be fair play from both team and referee or linesman as well. I think there are some mistake has made by the referee. Perhaps, the Paul octopus has influenced the referee? I only regret to the mistake by sent off Heitinga that forced Netherlands has to played the game win ten men. If Netherlands didn't played with ten men, the result could be different.

Hello iwrite!! MY father's bet was SPAIN and they did win. i think that they are a pretty strong team with very nice strategic moves. I only saw the last part when SPAIN was declared champion. Let's wait after 4 years if there is any change for HOLLAND.

They are pretty strong team and on their normal play would be great, however they did not exhibit they kind of soccer that made them famous. I guess on that night luck was on their side.

Yes, it was very, very sad. I didn't get to see the match because it was on a Sunday but I taped it. I haven't brought myself to actually watching it though. I lived in Holland for six years and I still have family who live there. We're still proud of those guys. One of these years they'll go all the way. Of course, I'm cheering for the USA these days.

gtargirl I think the US has got a good team, however the current batch is a little too old, and for the next world cup might find it hard as the experience one would have left the team. If you ask me I think Dutch was rob of the world cup

Had the dutch won, I would have considered it the biggest robbery in my living life. I do not think they deserved to win for the way they played. In fact they did not even turn up to play, they came for an ugly fight. And once they had beaten the life out of the players wanted to score the goal. I am very happy that Casillas saved both the chances and Iniesta put the ball into the net. I was really sorry for the Dutch when they lost in 1974 and 1978, but this time around I am very happy they lost!! Cheers! Ram

Do not be offended, ram_cv, I guess both have the different opinion. While you mentioned the Dutch did not turn up neither did the Spaniards. Their passes was wayward and more often you see that the dutch were showing them not to pass in the middle of the park. The two players that made a difference were Casillas and Fàbregas. Alonso were a shade of himself, and really how often they threaten the goal. Then clear the ball for the dutch more often then the dutch themselves. While iniesta goal was a work of good play, up to that point in extra time it was the dutch attacking and the Spaniard out of ideas.

iwrite, I felt that the game was really fair and that the misses by Robben and his teammates in the Holland team just could not be blamed on luck as the Spaniards are really a class above the Hollanders. It is a fact that Spain is a team to watch and look out, in this world cup tournament where they have all the necessary preparations for this win. Let's not forget that Spain is the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship champion beating Germany 1-0 in the finals. The Spanish players have been playing the same people in and out of their international and domestic professional leagues. Even though, with some retirements coming especially from their veteran striker Raul the team just bursting with talents like David Villa, Pedro and Torres. Also, if you've seen the match I am sure you will agree with me that Jesús Navas was indeed impressive taking upon a seasoned Holland flanked defense. The build up of the Spanish team is indeed credible with an impressive track record starting from the individual players clubs where they are the top teams in their leagues and UEFA champions league namely Real Madrid and Barcelona. Robben was indeed brilliant and playing his heart out but his shots though were magnificent just could not find the net as the Spanish custodian was just equal to the task. So, Spain deserves to win at all counts as they are a much more well rounded team than Holland, standing out in their mental aspect of the game.

skysuccess Well on their day the Spanish, they are definably be a class above the rest, however yesterday, they are not even a match for the Italians. Really yesterday they were not able to play their game and their passes were off and rarely threaten the goal. In fact the dutch have the clear chances.

I don't think luck so much as confidence played a part, maybe the occasion proved too much for them once again. The question can be asked now where did they go wrong, they have the players they have the technical ability, but on 3 occasions they have failed to win the World Cup and any team that beats brazil deserves to win the cup. I am a huge Brazil fan and I backed Holland to take the cup, one could argue that if Brazil had been there or even Germany it would have been a different game I think in the end they lacked the fighting spirit and it came down in the end to who wanted it more. Next up 2014 who will it be?

As you quite rightly point out, confidence is lacking in the match. However I think the dutch trying to break Spaniard's passing game, but at the end they were still not able to beat the Spaniard.

Holland is just like Brazil without the ball they can't play their attacking football, the dutch have never been strong, did you ever see them cross the ball once in the game they too one dimensional against Brazil they scored of the set piece, spain knew stop them down the middle and attack behind Robben and Sneiyder. If the attecked and crossed spain they could have scored Kluivert is missed in that aspect. Ramos was the weakness in the spanish armour and they didn't exploit that. I can tell you al about the weaknesses thats what makes this an exciting game it is about war and tactics somehow lol Outwit and Outplay lol

YEah, indeed!! Alot of ple has actually set their sights on holland winning the world cup!! BUt too bad, heavy boat sink, and thus giving spain the benefit of winning it!! haha =D Holland definitely does not deserve to lose, because they did play quite well, and though they might be rough, but that's what makes the game exciting!! haha =D KUdos for spain too, as they did not get frustrated by those rough plays, and they take it like a real man!! haha

indeed, usually Spanish play very good soccer, however on that night they did not turn up, even though they have most of the procession, they never really threaten until Cesc Fàbregas came in for Xavi Alonso. Their strike at goals were more like desperate attempts hope it would land near the goal mouth, which most were so far away they were near the next continent. Not that dutch were playing particularly well, however few instant they make the Spaniard looked ordinary. twice the split the center of the defense so easily, they were lucky they were not punished.

They should protest against Sepp Blatter, he's a vile criminal. Not going to explain it since it's so clear.

Indeed they will unlucky. The Oranje has two one-to-one situation to take the lead and they didn't. It can be argue that Puyol should have been sent off, but credits to the Spainards, they are the deserving World Champion.

sjlskl I do not know what you mean by deserving champions, while they play attractive soccer, on this night their passes was horrible. It make my hometown school boys look good. but they did what it mattered score a goal.
