How old would you think a mylot post is too old?

Mylot has a rule about not duplicating posts. I would never copy one, but before I start writing I check many times with the search tool and the last post about my subject was 4 years ago. When I post it is because I am interested in a subject and I want feed back, specially from my friends. Those old posts usually have few answers and there are no posiilities as making them "live" again as to say. Would you think that 4 (or 3) years is too old and that you can start a similar post about a certain subject? Please gove me your opinion. Gurus, wise people, what do you think?

I have never repeated a discussion but if it's been that long there would be alot of new members that didn't see it. I don't know if mylot has a rule about doing that or not.

Hi Jo, I was thinking more about discusions that other people started years ago. I´m into gardening (little by little, of course) and I have found that old discusions have few answers. There were less mtlotters then, I suppose. A big hug!

hi dear, i have not ever repeated any of discussion but now i am thinking to restart one as it is an evergreen discussion. so, as i have only one year experience here so i think one year is the highest term to repeat a discussion. have a nice day.

I feel it´s a pity that some good subjects should be closed just because somebody touched them. But I imagine it´s a matter of wording it differently and giving our own point of view.

i also believe that even how old a discussion is, we can still start a new one with the same or similar topic, as long as we do not make that same topic a clear copy. we can always, i believe, make a new discussion out of an old discussion.

hi marguicha, we can start and post several discussion of same subject with different angles of posing,so 3 to 4 years time was long i think,so they may allow the old posts in mylot,or if some body report/abuse it as old one, then mylot will take the action of delating that post, but i post all new but the subject is old one only, have a nice day

OI know, yugasini. There are always different points of view for everything. I would not want to make a copy-paste either. But I would like to have some old subjects posted again so I get more answers that the old post got.

I think doing something that just got posted within the same day would be something that would be considered to be way too soon for sure. I think that the time you stated is well in the safe range by a longshot. I tend to look to see if anything has been posted that is rather similar in the last month myself. I think that is a good guideline before the post is new. However, several years down the line is more than safe. I think that by then the turnover on the website is so much that the people who contributed to the topic have long since forgotten about the topic. Therefore, if it is that long, then I would go for it without any hesitation. That is way past the safe range and thus fair game for posting.

You are right. Besides, everyone has his own particular way of looking at a subject. Thanks for sharing.

I think you can post on anything if there's a subject for it. I've done that with really old posts because it was a subject I was interested in.

Welcome to mylot! You are right. If you are interested in a subject and posts about that are very old, we should be able to post our own ideas about the subject.

I think it is ok to post if the text is your own - even if the subject is already here. I have woken up some of my discussions just by adding a comment somewhere, and like a miracle the discussion is visible - at least in my profile. I have one four year old discussion among the first in my profile - it is about gardening and I thought someone could find it and think it would be an interesting idea.

If the discussion is over a year old I don’t usually worry about duplicating the subject. It is not a MyLot rule of course but I have been gauging old discussions. I’m not sure what admin would have to say about it but in my opinion if a topic was done over twelve months ago it is time someone ‘revived’ the subject!

This is in fact one of the most important questions asked. I believe 28days is long enough to be too old for a mylot on mylot. my lot needs to give a little bit time to the discussion to get response from users. I do not the time allowed for a discussion to stay live in mylot now, but my gut feeling is this, it must be 28 odd days.

For me one post is too old when it is like more than one year old. If it is newer it still can be discussed and still can be actual.
