Why Is There Good?

Atheist, in their argument against God, ask the question, "If God is so good, why is there evil in the world?" The evolutionist say man evolved from apes which would mean we are only animals and in the animal world it's survival of the fittest. If man is nothing more than an animal, shouldn't the question be, why is there good in the world?

Good question! As a believer in God, we have evil because of freedom of choice, and God has allowed evil to exist temporarily to eventually reward those who choose God's ways. It will be interesting to read the comments of atheists as to why good exists.

If evolution is the True God then we need another quick evolutionary change. We will soon need the ability to survive and thrive on eating oil spills, plastic, and other harmful substances or for God to intervene and take over the management of the earth. Either way it will a "miracle". We can argue and argue but in the end we make the choice and we will have to live with the consequences. I let everyone make their choice. But I'm like Joshua! Joshua 24:14-15 (Young's Literal Translation) 14`And now, fear ye Jehovah, and serve Him, in perfection and in truth, and turn aside the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Jehovah; 15and if wrong in your eyes to serve Jehovah -- choose for you to-day whom ye do serve; -- whether the gods whom your fathers served, which [are] beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorite in whose land ye are dwelling; and I and my house -- we serve Jehovah.'

Obviously, good is in the world because good has an evolutionary value -- the conditions of cooperation, mercy, etc. that we call good increase everyone's chances of living long enough to pass their genes on.

Evil is still in the world. Is it evolving also?

There are several flaws in your argument. As has been stated above we did not evolve from apes but do share a common ancestor with modern apes. Evolution does not involve survival of the fittest as you seem to view it. Strength and ferocity do not determine the survival of a species. That survival depends on the ability to adopt to environmental change. I am curious what your definition is of what constitutes good and evil. Many of the traits that fit the common definition of good and evil can be found in chimpanzee society. The good traits seem to emerge because they confer an evolutionary advantage. Why is there good in the world? It exists because it helps our species survive.

The Great Depression was not an environmental change. It was a social-economic situation. You need to refresh your knowledge as to what constitutes the environment. Your question as to why there is bad in the world contradicts your original premise and echoes the question posed by those that use it as an argument against belief. "Good - moral excellence. Evil - morally bad, harmful, wicked." You are on a rather slippery slope here. What does constitute good and evil? Is killing good or evil? Your answer, if you think it out must be conditional.

I don't think evolutionist say that man evolved from ape. Btw, the term 'evolutionist' is generally not preferred by those who argue in favor of evolution. technically evolutionary biology/biologist is more appropriate. Evolutionary biology rather says that man and ape share common ancestor. And evolutionary biology also does not say that we man are only animal; rather they say that man is part of animal kingdom, but human is human. Of course men are also animal, but that does mean we are just equal to animal. No evolutionary biologists say that... only when some atheist import their worldview into biology then they may say. Biology as such does not say that men are just animals, and we have operate our lives at "survival of the fittest" level. "Survival of the fittest" does not apply to human lives!

Good and Evil (positive and negative) consciousness is based on the spiritual growth of the soul. And those are matters of choices either by actions or by just the thoughts of the mind or consciousness. As we as Man or human beings has a higher level of consciousness than other living creatures on this world of the physical plane. Our judgment and choices are high level of complexity and dynamic. If the Corals at the bottom of the sea is diversified by individual organism, our own each individual minds and consciousness is much more diversified than those on the Coral reefs.

howdy bestboy19 Did I said that? Yeah sure, that's the sample how diversified and dynamic of our human minds. It's just pops out of the blue. If I have did that, well of course, sure others human can do that also. Now why did I said that. A community of corals or ecosystems has different kinds of so many, many different kind organisms. Some are big some are microscopic organisms. With these different kind of organisms makes the whole ecosystems as corals. Although there are different by individuals or by groups they have different roles and level of consciousness to make a coral live as one ecosystem. But these groups or individual organisms living on a one ecosystem of a coral their level of consciousness like their judgements and choosing is limited to that one place or location. Or the moments where they can dynamically flourished and diversified. In short words, in order the organisms living on or make the ecosystem of the corals must only stay that way or make the corals live in order these organisms live life, flourish and diversified. As for us human beings' individual minds is already diversified in nature, we can think anything what we want to think consciously in order to live life. We can have anything and everything what we want to be or have with just on our mind.

Good question. I read a wonderful article that explains this. It seems that co-operation works BETTER than being alone. Why in the beginning of animal life did the amino acids in the premordial sea combine to make proteins ? Why did the individual cells join together to make many celled animals. It just works BETTER. And that's how evolution works. No need for a "God"

lol. 'it just works better' ? and even more lol.. 'thats how evolution works' Another one brainwashed by the improveable science agenda. Here.. have another one. 'water runs downhill so it can loose carbs' .. /slap

No theory is "provable" The question is if it can be proved FALSE. Any attempt to prove evolution false just didn't work. What about "God" ? Can you design an experiment that if it DIDN'T work would PROVE that there is no "God" ? You have a better way of establishing a theory than by using science ? I didn't understand this water thing. Water runs downhill because that's how it's entropy rises. You know what entropy is ?

It took me awhile. I looked at your 2 links. 1. I knew of the story about the scorpion and the frog. There is a different cute ending to it. The scorpion says "What do you want ? This is the Middle East." In either case the point is that it IS the nature of the scorpion to sting. What is the relevance of this cute story to what we're talking about ? Yes there are MANY cases where co-operation DOESN'T work because one party just DOESN'T co-operate. And in THAT case it DOESN'T work. But true co-operation DOES work better. Want an example ? Look at Europe today. 100 years ago it was filled with wars. Germany started 2 world wars. Doesn't the European union work BETTER ? 2. This is an impressive compilation of a refutation of evolution. You don't expect me to go over all the points here do you ? I can see anyway how YOU have been brainwashed. Let me ask just 3 questions out of thousands that I could ask you: a. Do you doubt the validity of carbon testing to show the age of an artifact ? b. Are you completely unaware of the genetic engineering that is going on to enhance plant and animal development ? Don't you realize that the chickens of today produce many more eggs than in previous years, that they grow bigger and quicker than before ? This is present day PROOF of evolution. 3. Do you deny the existence at one period of time of dinasours ? If not, did they exist the same time that man existed ?

Very good question, and one that hasn't been answered yet! Whether we supposedly evolved from apes, along side apes (?) or something totally different is beside the point. How did good get into this world if there is no God?? Very good thought.

Agreed. I can't see where good OR evil are evolutionary outcomes. They're both in this world and both have been as far back as we can know. I suspect they'll both be with us until the very end.

Apes and man could have had a common ancestor but we are closely related species. We have not evolved from apes. Man is more of a human; he is not an animal, though his base nature is that of animal. Today what we term as evil was man's nature that had helped him to survive in hostile conditions. The condition changed. He need not live according to his animal nature to survive. His disposition too had altered. He had turned more kindly and humane. Man today has to live as human. He has to live according to his new nature. Man had learnt the hard way that by living according to animal nature would only harm him. It would bring him only misfortune and destruction. Man had developed a new nature because God had revealed in him his own divine presence. If there is still evil in the world, it is due to one singular reason. Men who do not want to believe in God are evil. Only those who believe in God are good.

Let me attempt to answer now that we know we are not direct descendants of the ape. There is good in the world coz man is made in the image of God? There is evil in the world coz of man's own free will and the evil one prowling the earth. Thus there is both good and evil in the world.
