Do you prefer reading the book or watching the movie?

I just thought of this discussion because of the blockbuster movie Twilight Saga. Before it became a blockbuster movie, it was a best seller novel book by Stephanie Meyer. Same goes with the Harry Potter Series. I am not into reading books but if you were able to read these books, would you prefer them in the book or in the film? And if you're just like me who haven't read the books, will you be interested in reading the book after watching the film? I got interested in reading the last and fourth book because of watching the three movies.

I would prefer reading then watching the movie but the problem is that it takes me to much time to read while watching the movie you just sit on your chair or in bed and find out what the story is about in 2 hours or less. It's true that a book describes stuff more detailed but if you read it and don't use your imagination to understand the characters feelings then you won't get much of it. Reading a book means that you should really get into that book and while reading you have to imagine the scenes. That's why some movie producers are more successful then others because they reproduce the scene from the book adding up some additional stuff to make the scene more interesting and to capture the attention of the viewer.

I prefer reading the books to watching them in the cinema first, the books hold way more detail than any film ever could and alot of films change or miss things out. I do like going to see the films aswell though. Although i rarely find a film better than its book. The twilight saga books are much better than the films, the first film had very little moeny to work with and to be honest, kritsten stewart is one of the worst actress's ive came across.

I much prefer watching the film rather than reading the book. I think the movie versions of hit books have been much more interesting than the actual book.

I love watching the movie version than reading it because everything is given in a short of 2 hours while if you read, it will take you weeks to finish it. But some say it is worth reading because there are a lot of great scenes that wasn't in the movie version.

I prefer to read a book! But sometimes and not very rare a movie is better than a book. So some books can be missed I guess. But it's just my opinion. Judging by your avatar - you must be a fan of "Twilight". A book or a movie? Maybe both.

Hi, I just wanted to add that it's great when the movies inspire you to read the books. I think it's the best outcome and I respect those movies that have the power to make people read and grow. Take care and have a very nice day! :)

Most of the time I prefer reading the book. Books are great. I did watch the movie Anna Carrinena a few months ago. It was a 7 hour movie. The book would have taken forever to read. Those Russian novels are so darn convoluted, it's just easier to sit and watch the movie. .

Book reading has been my favorite pastime. However, sadly, I have become so very busy, that I have hardly to read even the day's newspaper., leave alone books. That's the reason I prefer watching the movies. Here, not only can I finish off in 2 hours flat. And, if some disturbance/interruptions do occur., you can always pause the movie, and carry on when you become free.

I choose books every time! I prefer my imagination coloring the story instead of someone in Hollywood. I've noticed that reading is becoming a thing of the past, something that isn't very popular after the Generation X group (my generation). It's a shame because reading is a wonderful exercise in brain, vocabulary, and imagination development. Today's generation is so used to being provided with input (from the computer, iphone, etc.) that many are using their own brain power less and less.

i'd certainly go for the book... prose is better than images... imagination takes the cake with some polishing to boot...

I prefer reading the book; although it requires a lot of your time but it's worth it because of its completeness. In the movie of course it's fast and when your watching, message are absorbed. Sometimes you have to grope some words that you're not familiar with when you're reading but if you're not lazy to have that dictionary by your side, you'll learn. Happy reading!

I prefer reading the book than watching the movie. There are events in the book that can't be find in the movie. Sometimes, the characters in movie are different it as what the book described them.:D

I love reading books and compared to movies, books are a bit more interesting for me. Yes, the movies have all the special effects and stuff but books awaken the imagination and you can actually get into the story.

I would rather read a book before I watch the movie version. The movie is usually the interpretation of the person producing the movie. The book usually gives the details in a story. A movie does not capture all the details in a book.

Compared with watching the movie,I prefer to read the book.Though movies can give you a lot of fantastic visual images, the plot there is not the same as the original works because they need to attract the audiences in a short time. When I read the book, it can open my infinite imagination, and I can create the characters as I like.

I will also read the book because I can't wait for the next movie because it would take another year before they've finished this movie.

Well to me, I'm interested with the film. Maybe because I have a lazy imagination? i dont know.., but definitely, i would love to watch it first before i read it. I wont enjoy a film if I already know the ending or even just the important parts of it. Its like reading spoilers on the net. I remember reading The Notebook first,., I didnt watch the movie in the theater., i watched it on tv because im not that thrilled anymore.
