My teenager loves spaghetti but does not like a tomato based sauce. I am tired of making butter/garlic sauce and think alfredo is too unhealthy. Does anybody have any suggestions for alternatives?

I do a meal with spaghetti or linguini and I make a low fat vegetarian sauce from beaten eggs, Quark and you can add herbs like chives, some milk if need be, plus salt and pepper. You can also add cheese, maybe Parmesan.

Now that sounds interesting. I think I'm going to be trying lots of new pasta sauces. Thanks.

How about olive oil instead of butter. Add garlic, oregeano, basil maybe a fresh chopped tomato, a little seasalt and pepper. I also add red pepper flakes, which are hot but I love my food to be spicy and hot. I hope this helps you out.

The red pepper flakes would be excellent. He loves spicy too. I have been using butter with olive oil mixed in but it seems greasy...it may be time to change to just olive oil. Thank you.

Oh, I make that all the time lelin1123! It is very yummy indeed, so a great suggestion! I sometimes make spaghetti with lemon flavour, which is pretty much olive oil, lemon juice, possibly some garlic or other spices, oregano or basil, and then I add some parmesan to it. For those who like lemon, this is really a great choice!

hello! I think a pesto based sauce would work.
