Well, it should be! ... Alright, maybe it shouldn't...but I tell you, sometimes it gets to me. I don't mind the way we shorten words when sending texts or talking to someone via online messangers, that's great. What I don't like, is reading work be it an article or a short story posted up on the forums and seeing that the author made no effort at all, as to proof-read the damned thing! Oh and guys, "a lot" is 2 words. Just like "a few" is 2 words, "a lot" is the same. Well, I've rambled long enough. Let's hear your opinion on this ;)

If it is understood it is therefore correct. Spell cheek is so easy though so why not use it.

Wel I fink dat txt spk iz da wrst fing eva! U dnt no wat ppl r sayin and u cnt read a dam fing! Seriously, whoever chooses to write articles and stories in text-speak is just showing their own ignorance. The silliest thing about it for me is that It's meant to be quicker to type, yet it takes me much longer to read properly! Surely that defeats the whole object? I can accept things like "LOL" and "LMAO" every so often, but if the whole message is written in txt, I'd rather stab my eyeballs with a fork. Another pet hate - the amount of people who write "loose" when they really mean "lose".

Loose and lose...GRRR! I agree with you on that lol. And you're quite right...you're not doing the reader a favour typing in...whatever language that is! I was playing "Hearts" on Yahoo games before and everyone was always saying "n" in the chat bar. I asked what "n" stands for...they said it was short for "in" Is it really that hard to write a 2 letter word you must shorten to one!?

TEYF - I gotta remember that one! lol

Now that really does deserve an LOL - still, I'm sure they put the micro-second they saved by not typing the "i" to good use. The worst example I've ever seen is somebody using "k" to mean "OK", closely followed by "kl" for "cool". I was tempted to respond with TEYF for Type English, You Fool.

I am very particular with spelling. I do sometime tell me family members to spell it correctly if texting or e-mailing because it makes me crazy to read , understand and analyze the thought... abbrv. really destroys our memory.

Yeah, people do say it's faster to type, but do they think about the person receiving the message? I don't find it exactly "easy".

Yeh, i agree with you on that one. I would have thought that if they are writing an article that they would at least use the spellcheck feature before submitting it. As far as I know most computers have this feature.

Yes, you'd assume the writer would at least type the article or paste it on microsoft word to check for spelling errors. ...so much for that assumption...

I think it's okay to write short hand or txt talk but if you're writing an article online or as you said T-Diamond, information in a forum - spell checking would be excellent. I think that eventually people may lose the capacity to spell altogether. The frequency with which people use abbreviations is alarming. Also, we shouldn't always rely on spell check to solve the problems either. Even though it helps.

Spell check does help, I agree, the only problem is it can't always pick out grammar points for you. Words like "their" and "there" or "its" and "it's" oooh oooh, my favourite one... "Loose" and "lose" LOL.

Hi again, I agree with you. I would rather skip such articles as they make no sense and there is no fun in reading them. Looks like people are getting more and more lazy now a days, though today we have facility of spelling checker available, and even if you write fast and make mistakes, they will be auto corrected. As for me I hardly use any short cuts.....I prefer to write in details.

That's great to know Apsara, that you would rather prefer to write in detail. :) I too believe people are becoming more lazy with their spelling.

That's one of the disadvantages in using cellphones and in texting a lot. I also shorten words when I send text messages but when I write something, I always make sure the spelling is correct. I have a ten year old nephew and he's already texting but I dont encourage him to shorten words.

The reason I tend to shorten words on texting is because my speed is terrible lol.

I find spelling and vocabulary to be very important. It is essential to possess these two skills or you could risk expressing the wrong message, having someone misinterpret you or reduce the appearance of your intelligence level to others. I use txt talk a lot, on facebook, my cell phone and IMs like Yahoo, but never in a professional email or anything like that. I have been in several spelling bees and can pride myself on saying that there aren't too many words that I don't know how to spell or don't know the meaning of. This is very important in all fields and all careers, so a person that cannot successfully word what they are saying has a huge disadvantage.

I agree, I don't want people to look down on me just because I've made a simple spelling mistake I could have easily prevented.

I absolutely agree with you..some time its quite annoying to read such sentences eventough its just a mere comment. To be wrong in spelling is another story, because at least you tried to write in a propper way but misspelled the words. This kind of writting may spoil the beauty of language.

Yes, it's alright to make spelling mistakes in a forum, as long as what you're writing is readable. My school days, several of my friends were international students or at least those not native to english, like myself ;). Their wasn't great, but I could still understand what they were trying to say or write.

Yes, I pity those business people who get their grammar or spelling upside down. It's humiliating lol.
