Writing... Restarting an old ambition in my life

I'm always looking for new things to do in my "free time." I really don't have free time, but I try to make some every now and then. So, instead of looking for something new to do, I decided to recycle some of my old ambitions. I've started writing again, and I love it! I think I want to be a writer. I love reading, but writing excites me even more. I'm in the middle of writing several collections of short stories and hopes to get them published one day. I also have a small collection of poems. Poems are my first love when it comes to writing, but I'm trying a new genre of writing right now. Does anyone else love writing like I do? What do you like to write about. Do you plan on doing something with your writing one day, or is it just for fun?

That is so great. I wish you all the best. I, too, love to write and I think I'm in a similar situation as you - recycling my old ambition. I keep putting it off, but I'd love to start a blog about pets and write articles that are fun, entertaining and helpful. What I must do is circle a date on the calendar, and start blogging. I keep leaving it to chance and guess what? It doesn't happen. If I write it down and just do it, it will happen. Wow, now I'm pumped. Thanks, trell, you've inspired me and you didn't even know it.

By the way, I did write an article, recently, that was published on AC. I was pretty excited about that.

Well, I'm glad you're excited about writing! I think it's contagious. I always set times to write as well and never get to it. I signed up for AC but could never get into it. Good luck in your writing endeavors!

Yes, I love writing too, trouble is with two kids to take care of I don't seem to have the time these days. I have started writing to penpals, and believe me this is a great way to get your hobby moving along, besides anything else, I think writing a personal letter and sending it to that person's home address is a lot more fun and personal than sending an email. If you want to try out being a penpal, I'm avaliable!!! PM me if your interested. Eventually I would love to write poems and stories again, and at the moment I am enrolled on a creative writing course. On this course you have as long as you like to complete the written assignments given to you. You also have your work marked, and advice given from your tutor. It does cost, but if you pay in installment's as I do, you dont really miss the money. The only drawback of this course I find for me, is the fact that you study both fiction and non-fiction, and for me I am not that great at non-fiction, which is article writing etc. On the good side though, if your article is good enough, it will be sent to the magazine, and then you could make money for it, which would be a great start to some career in journalism. I found the site online, and am enjoying it.

Hey! I bet it is a task juggling hobbies and kids. I have gotten serious about my writing over the past few months, and I have subscribed to Writer's Digest. Penpals would be great! Thanks and good luck on your writing.

@ Trell8402 Yep, kids always will come first as they all should, but saying that, I do find time some evenings for a little me time, where I can sit and write letters to friends or get on with some of the course. Regarding penpals, I have sent you a message, so we can go from there! Looking forward to it! @tiggerific- Writing courses are great to do, especially if you would really like a career out of it. Here is a link to the course that I am doing... if you want just fill in your details to get a free info pack. The first part of the course includes writing articles, so would be good for you, if this is what you are interested in... anyway the link is: http://www.writersbureau.com/ Good Luck!

I have been considering a writing course lately. Though I am still in two minds wether to or not. I don't consider myself a writer, though I do like to write. I recently just started to write articles, though I think I still have a wya to go. Maybe I should try a course, what do you think?

I want to get published. I've been researching publishing houses that are subsidiaries of bigger ones that accept unsolicited manuscripts. I think I've found a few, but if I never get published, I'll be just as happy.

I've been writing poems for some time in my life and I have a few collections as well but when things at work became so hectic, I began to stay our of it. Not because I don't want it anymore, believe me, right at this moment I really wanted to make something new again to add up in my collection. Then family life sets in after that and the long wait goes on and here comes pregnancy of my wife and the coming baby. I don't have much more time to do it again but I still love to write when given a chance. I submitted in Triond some of my articles and some placed it in my website.

Poetry will always be my first love when it comes to writing. It's always good to find other poetry lovers and writers. I hope you do find time to write again! Good luck!

Hi, Congratulations, on finding some time to get back to doing something you really enjoy, writing. I too, love to write and I do write online. No sure if I am support to mention the site so I won't, I don't want to be kicked off. Anyway, I write poetry and articles that interest me. I haven't done any short stories online yet, but I do have a few. I was on that site before I found Mylot, which is a bit different, but I still get to express myself here too. I hope to evenually publish, lord knows I need the money. I wish you much success in your writing creativity. Take care

Thanks for the response. I haven't done much online since I hadn't been on myLot. I've just enjoyed writing in my spare time, but I feel I should at least try to do something with it. Thanks again and good luck with you!

Hi, Good luck to you as well. You can do anything you set your mind to do if you don't give up. I am preaching that to myself as well. I have so many unfinished pieces of work that I should get finished. Keep writing. Take Care

Oh My Gosh! I ALSO LOVE WRiTiNG! ANd I also love to read books! The problem with writing sometimes has to do with the extra bulk. Haha! Like when you're writing a story, you have the basic elements, the main characters and the main storyline, but since the storyline will be short, you have to add more things to make 'em longer. I prefer writing novels, because my stories are advisable to me made into novels. haha! I am not good at writing poems that rhyme, but if it's ok if a poem does not rhyme, then I'm good. :)) Of course I want my stories to be published one day, I also want to be a writer too! :) You should post your stories here! I would love to read them! :)
