How to get out of the rut?

I used to be so excited to go to work... to see my friends and colleagues, to be productive and busy, to enjoy the city lights.... Now, I feel bored with my job, with my daily routine. I guess one factor is myself. I feel weary whenever an aspect of my life doesn't feel like a "positive change" anymore. For now, I still feel thankful for having a job. But I really have to think of ways on how to get out of the rut. So that the boredom that I am feeling will not overcome the reasons on why I am still staying on this job. Any suggestions on how to get out of the rut?

Maybe it is time to change job. Mostly I stayed in job for two or three years maximum. Kept me out of boredom.

But Jennyze-if you do so that often, how will you have a career? You will always be at the bottom rung. It's no fun to be at Square One all the time. You must taste progress and success too. do try to stay at a good organization a little bit longer. If not, start your own business.

I don't know how, but I managed to get to a Manager position in two years. I started as a staff, then promoted to Supervisor after one year. I moved to other company and started as an Executive. When I move to another one, I got a Manager position in two years. So, I got lucky, I think. Now though, I am not thinking about a career. I want most to start my own business, before that I want to earn much money to start it.

I think the key to keep out of boredom is fingding a job that can offer you sense of achievement.onebody can endure a job they dislike.

yeah its good to even have a job to begin with the economy is going. i really don't know what to suggest now that your job is getting dull and uninteresting since its even hard to get a job with the economic conditions being the way they are. the only thing i would suggest is maybe making enough money online with a hobby you have if the money is sufficient enough over time for you to not need your current job but that takes time.

It is difficult to make money on-line. I have tried. It is better to be a free-lancer and get jobs from companies which wants to outsource certain projects to allow them to focus. The money will not come in monthly but if you should develop a reputation, things will be better revenue-wise.

...Hi there arystine, Life itself can be boring. We have to make ourselves do certain things which we know are necessary. It is good that you have a job especially under the present circumstances. Also great that you are thankful. One thing that you could do which would be mental is to imagine that you lost yur job, how awful would that be? That might give you a kick that says appreciate the job more than you might be doing now because of the rut. The other suggestion I have is to change your route to work, go in another direction to get there. You need something fresh about your day. Whatever you are buying in the morning for drinking if you are, change it, get something different. For lunch try another type food, experiment, nothing to do with your job but a change. Buy some sort of handheld small game to take to work with you and play it during your breaks. Mind stimulation is what you need. Finally rearrange your desk or work station, get something bright and colorful and new to liven it up. Hope these things help. Take care.

Hi artistry. Thanks for those wonderful suggestions. I especially like the one where I have to imagine that I lost my job... I imagined it and I felt awful. It made me appreciate my job more. I'm feeling better now. It's really nice to unload here in MyLot. :-)

Huh? In a rut already? I think the reason you feel you're in a rut is because you've already achieved a certain status, and that you've already outgrown your current job. Maybe it is time to look for a new one. Would you do private practice? I'm constantly looking for other jobs. So, that I don't feel like I'm in a rut in my current work. It gives me something to look forward to, if nothing else, it polishes my resume-updating skills. I haven't been successful in looking for another job though, because I'm still here.

HI bounce. I guess I was just feeling so down the other day that I could not appreciate even my job. I have been thinking for sometime and I decided to stick with my job. and be thankful that I have a job. I guess it's just the way that I am... to get bored with something once the novelty had worn off. It's time to be mature. :-)

I agree that we really need a job so be thankful. I guess what you can do is to find a way to be happy about your work even though they will bother you why not change them starting from you within. Just by being positive in life and it might end up having a good day at the end.

Yes, I'm trying to keep a positive attitude here. :-) I really don't want to quit my job. I guess I just need a reminder on why I used to really love working here. Thanks for the response.

My dear friend, spend some time alone thinking. You need to sit and discover your passion and likes. What do you like to do. Think about. Discover your talents by doing various activities. I am sure you will find something new to do. Try to add that activity to your daily routine. Try to do something new everyday. Even i was struggling from the same problem some years ago. But then i discovered that i like being with people and training them, teaching them, talking to them etc. That's why i left my bank job and joined an Institute to teach students. Now i enjoy my work everyday.

Pep up, if the factor is yourself. You need a positive approach to a working life.Try to make your job interesting. Recommend to the bosses how to do better do things or do things better. If it is your job, look for a new position elsewhere. That should change the environment you work and you will be able to make new friends. Do pray for God's guidance in whatever decision you make.

No one can advise to leave your job as it is yet more difficult to get a job when you do not have one. Couple ways, try really hard daily as you leave for work to have a more positive mind set on your daily tasks. Think about how positive you feel and how quickly your work day will end. The other thing is stay there and make the best out of every day and each day slowly ease out when you have found a more fulfilling job.
