Did they wait too long to put out the next Harry Potter Movie?

I am excited for a new movie. But I think there were a few things they did wrong and now the HP hype has dyed down. They put off releasing the 5th movie the year the Dark Knight came out because they didn't want to have competition for the movie. However, with each HP movie release before there was a book that would be coming out 6 months or a year later, so the HP hype was always on the go. When the 5th movie was supposed to come out the 7th book had just been released. Now with no more books (thanks to the terrible terrible epilogue in the 7th one) coming out there is nothing to keep Harry Potter fans interested. So they waited a year to put out the 5th movie and in that time Twilight took the world by storm. People became infatuated with Twilight and poor ol' Harry is left in the dust. I barely even seen any previews for the 6th movie when it came out and have yet to hear anything about the 7th other than the first part is supposed to come out sometime in 2010. Do you think they made a mistake by waiting an extra year for to release the 5th Harry Potter movie? What could be done to restore fandom? Do you think ratings will be way down because of all the Twilight movies?

yeah i think they spoiled the mania a bit by postponing the release of the movies. i totally hate what they're doing. i want the next HP movie! i demand they bring it out now! uh, so frustrated. but i don't think the twilight series will affect HP. I don't think they are substitutes. and harry potter has a bigger bigger market of viewers than twilight. it appeals to various age groups while twilight merely draws teenagers. i think the main thing that's affecting harry potter is the delay. so they should bring the stuff out now!(*o*)/

Oh I just meant with the hype being transfered from Harry Potter to Twilight, I know they can't really be compared! There are actually lots of middle aged women who are "in love" with Edward from Twilight. With nothing HP related coming out in the past few years i think Twilight has kind of taken the focus away from Harry.

I think it will be better with it being two movies, they will be able to fill in alot more details than they would with it only being one movie.

I agree with you that the time period between movies too long. But I think the special effects and the thrills required for the movie require some time. As the book is all about magic and magical places, it is very difficult to bring them to life very quickly, so I think that might be the cause of the delay. Also, the other problem Harry and Gang might no longer look to be 17 or 18 as they need to as per the book. They might just look much older!! Cheers! Ram

I know it takes a long time to make the effect, but what I'm tlkaing about was how theh delayed the release date by a year because of the Dark Knight. The movie was set to be released the same month as DK but they set it back a year to avoid competition, by then Twilight had come out. The movie was ready to go but they delayed the release. I'm a bit worried about 17 year old Harry looking 21 as well. Especially since Drako is really 24... that's 7 years older than he is in the movie. Good thing he has a youngish face!

Yeah, I would say they did. I don't know what's the real reason. Maybe it's to hype us all fans. You know to get us into fever so they can generate more income not just for the movie but for other goods as well; shirts, memorabillas. But still I'm excited and can't wait....
